Nexus Arena & Computer Lab Services Supervisor

REPORTS TO: SRC Manager, Facilities & Operations

St. Clair Student Representative Council Incorporated are seeking a competent Nexus Arena & Computer Lab Services Supervisor to join their leadership team.

The Nexus Arena & Computer Lab Services Supervisor is looked upon for leadership from the students and the entire college community. The Nexus Arena & Computer Lab Services Supervisor is a direct link to the SRC and is subject to the SRC bylaws and policies. The Nexus Arena & Computer Lab Services Supervisor shall have a close working relationship with the other members of the Esports program, along with the General Manager, Executive Director, the Board of Directors, and employees of the SRC to meet the goals and objectives set forth each year.

The Nexus Arena & Computer Lab Services Supervisor will work out of the Nexus Arena reception area, located at South Campus.

Duties:

  • Must always conduct themselves in the most professional manner.
  • Perform all duties with due diligence, and the highest degree of integrity and honesty.
  • Provides technical assistance to students regarding the use of supported software applications and hardware in the Open Lab areas and provides computer literacy.
  • Manages the South Campus Open computer labs areas including Library open lab.
  • Assists and works with SCC IT Services to troubleshoot hardware, software problems in the labs. Coordinates equipment maintenance and repair with the IT dept. and third-party resources (i.e. Kelcom, GG Leap, Microsoft)
  • Trains and hires IT student technicians in both operations and policies and procedures.
  • Supervises all student workers in lab areas
  • Facilitate, coordinate, and assist in the operation of the Nexus Arena and surrounding areas. o Including but not limited to;
  • Maintains the inventory of games, controllers, consoles, and other equipment needed for proper operation of the Console Gaming Lounge
  • Maintains the inventory of games and peripherals, as well as other software and hardware needed for proper operation of the Open PC Gaming Lab
  • Maintains the inventory of games and equipment for proper operation of the VR Bays
  • Oversees concessions and merchandise inventory and sales through the Nexus Reception Desk to drive revenue for the esports program
  • Ensures tidiness in all public facing areas of the Nexus including the Reception Desk, the Console Gaming Lounge, the Pit, the VR Bays, the Nest, the Open PC Gaming Lab, and the Competition Stage
  • Maintains a list of KPIs for the Nexus to monitor usage and performance
  • Maintains a budget and finances for the Nexus Reception
  • Oversees the implementation of LAN Center Management software (such as GG Leap or viable alternatives)
  • Meet with students to investigate and assist in resolving any IT complaints or concerns.
  • Facilitate and coordinate the booking of the Nexus open gaming lounge and VR Rooms.
  • Engage in close working relationship with other members of the SRC Office / Operations and undertake tasks that relate to the goals and duties of the corporation.
  • Eager to carry out the "front-line" role of assisting students, individually, with their day-to-day problems - including the ability to refer them quickly to on- and off-campus people who might be even more capable of addressing their concerns.

  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Responsible for IT student Technicians and Esports nexus supports
  • Supports the operation of the Nexus Arena and assists in the supervision of the open gaming lab
  • Work closely with academy and varsity coaches for scheduling

  • Knowledge of trends, issues, and accepted practices relevant to the position
  • Advanced operation skills: Microsoft Office, Blackboard
  • Customer service skills and ability to maintain student centered environment

Desirable Personal Qualities / Traits

  • Office administration education and/or experience
  • Has some business/cash-handling experience / insight
  • Note-taking ability (for the recording of meetings)
  • Bondable
  • Familiarity with computer hardware and software, particularly the Microsoft Office suite
  • Familiarity with college issues and the challenges faced by postsecondary students
  • Trustworthiness with confidential information (pertaining to both the corporation and students)
  • Knowledge of College considered an asset

Specifications: Have a true desire to meet different people from all over the community. Will be able to work a full-time, up to 40-hour work week Must have office hours posted for students to know when they are available. Flexible schedule is a must.

This position is Full-Time working up to 40 hours a week, on a 2-year contract with potential for renewal.
