Job Summary

This position is responsible for completing all assigned field projects within assigned deadlines under the direction of a Company Foreman, with the drive and motivation needed to progress towards a foreman position.


Responsibilities

  • Complete jobs using a variety of tools and equipment safely and effectively as trained and required
    • Power tools, tampers, cut-off saws
    • Mobile equipment: skid steer, excavator, backhoe
  • Complete all assigned work safely and effectively
    • Determine and setting grades
    • Screeding sand for pavers and laying/setting the base course for walls
    • Installing pavers on pedestal and rubber puck build up systems
    • Determine and execute plant layout and planting to BCLNA standards
    • Installation of natural or commercial water features
    • Installation of mat/tile and tray greenroof systems
    • Set-up and execution of craning projects
    • Civil construction jobs
  • Ensure all tools and equipment are in good working order and complete minor maintenance as required
  • Participate in the completion FLRA, Inspections, Checklists and Toolbox Talks as required
    • Bring attention to any unreported safety concerns requiring attention/correction
  • Providing exceptional customer service and maintaining positive working relationships with customers and coworkers
  • Participate in all training and performance reviews required by the Company
  • Assist in the loading and unloading of materials
  • Pursue ongoing education sponsored by the Company as required
  • In the absence of a Company Foreman act as the “leader” on site as first point of contact

Job Specifications Education

  • Significant trades education or comparable experience
  • Red Seal (completion or working towards) in Landscaping/Horticulture an asset

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years’ industry experience in progressive roles
  • Experience in a leadership role an asset

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Computer literacy an asset
  • Effective verbal communication skills and the ability to work with people in a variety of circumstances and from various backgrounds.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Possess a thorough, organized and detail-oriented approach to work
  • High level of customer service
  • Plan, prioritize and coordinate, multi-task and complete work assignments within prescribed deadlines
  • Able to apply effective time management and self-management skills. Able to be flexible in position requiring timely response
  • Ability to foster a cooperative working environment
  • Ability read technical reports, construction documents and technical knowledge of industry components and their function an asset

Physical Requirements

  • Apply physical dexterity with frequent bending, stretching, reaching, grabbing, holding and carrying
  • Hear and speak in order to communicate with others
  • Frequently lifting 30-600lbs, as required
  • Standing, sitting and walking for the majority of the day, sometimes on uneven surfaces or on stairs

Work Environment

The majority of the work is performed outside on jobsites with exposure to dirt, dust, dampness, construction debris, possible extreme temperatures, noises, construction material fumes and odors.
