EIPS is recruiting a permanent full-time Library Technician at Fort Saskatchewan High.
Fort Saskatchewan High serves approximately 475 students in grades 10 to 12, with 24 teaching staff and 13 support staff. The school is located in Fort Saskatchewan, AB, approximately 20 kilometres north of Sherwood Park, AB. Fort Saskatchewan High aims to provide a stimulating student-centered environment that models lifelong learning where every person is provided with the opportunity to reach their own potential.
- Commencing August 31, 2023
- 35 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 7 hours per day)
- Open to internal and external applicants, priority will be given to permanent EIPS employees

KEY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
The Library Technician assists students, teachers, and support staff in effectively utilizing the learning resources available within the library/learning commons. The library technician must understand the standardized technical procedures that exist in all libraries and must be an information specialist in all forms, including books, periodicals and online resources. The Library Technician will maintain the library/learning commons through team planning and the application of standardized library policies and procedures. This individual receives direction from the Teacher-Librarian or Principal.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma
- Library Technician Diploma (2 years) or equivalent education
- Minimum of one-year related experience
Demonstrated Skills and Competencies
- Strong oral and written communication skills including library advocacy
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational skills and time management skills to support students
- Experience tracking and maintaining a library budget
- Reliability and dependability
- Comfort and competency working with personal computers and other technologies to support student learning
- Ability to respect and value all individuals with sensitivity to diversity
- Ability to respond appropriately to challenging behaviours of students
- Ability to effectively utilize crisis intervention strategies
- Ability to demonstrate flexibility in work assignments
- Knowledge of general library operations along with a knowledge of various specific routines and practices that are common to all libraries.
- Knowledge of library automation systems and the ability to learn new systems and software programs
- A comprehensive knowledge of International Cataloguing Standards and standardized subject headings
- Knowledge of computers in a networked environment
- Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, the internet and e-mail applications
- Knowledge of website layout and design
- Knowledge of general office equipment
- Ability to operate and perform minor repairs on audio-visual equipment
- The ability to maintain consistent routines and practices with attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to take direction as well as be self-motivated and work independently
