Position description
Limited-term appointment positions at Concordia are full-time faculty positions of between 9.5- and 12month duration (the annual salary is pro-rated in the case of shorter contracts). The incumbent is responsible for teaching six (in the case of a 9.5-month contract) or seven three-credit courses per year, and for some administrative and other service roles within the academic unit. Up to two subsequent 12month appointments may be possible, subject to satisfactory job performance, academic unit need, and budgetary approval.
The Department of Psychology at Concordia University is seeking teaching expertise in the area of Personality & Psychopathology. Within this area, successful candidates will be qualified to teach both introductory and advanced courses in at least one of personality or psychopathology combined with, at minimum, sufficient interest and experience to begin teaching in the other sub-area.

Eligible applicants should have a PhD degree in Psychology or a related field. Candidates must also demonstrate their ability or potential to teach at the undergraduate level. Evidence of teaching effectiveness is the key attribute by which qualified candidates will be ranked.

The Department of Psychology is home to 45 faculty members, with research strengths in the areas of behavioural neuroscience, clinical and health psychology, cognitive science, and human development. The department is one of the largest in the University, with over 2,100 Psychology major, specialization, and honours undergraduate students, and over 200 graduate students in our research and clinical/research streams. The Department offers BA, BSc and PhD programs in Psychology, and BSc programs in Psychology with a Specialization in Behavioural Neuroscience. Programs are designed to give students a solid background in psychological theories, methods, research and applications. The goals of all programs are to foster informed and critical thinking based on a research-driven curriculum. The research-focused curriculum in the Department is not just important for those who wish to become researchers. Clinical psychologists, educators and physicians, along with people in marketing, management and human resources all use the information generated by psychological research in their work every day. People in a broad range of other professions need to be able to evaluate the results of research studies and to decide what treatments, policies or programs they will put into place. Therefore, our curriculum provides students with the skills to effectively use the results of research in their chosen careers.
The Department of Psychology at Concordia has a national and international reputation for research productivity and training. Each year researchers in the Department bring in over $4 million in external funding and publishes an impressive number of research articles in top-ranked scientific journals. The Department is home to three Concordia University Research Centres: the Centre for Clinical Research and Health; the Centre for Research in Human Development; and the Centre for Studies in Behavioural Neurobiology. In addition, there are interest groups for bilingualism, cognitive sciences, and the person in context (personality and sociocultural psychology).
