Job Summary

The Machine/Equipment Operator position is responsible for supporting site operations, carrying out a variety of general labour activities relating to the care and maintenance of seed orchards, and helping in harvest capacities.

The Ministry of Forests is responsible for stewardship of Provincial Crown land and natural resources. Overseeing a land base of 94.8 million hectares, the Ministry supports the sustainable management of forest, mineral and land resources, the prosperity, viability and competitiveness of industries that use them, and public access for a wide range of activities such as hunting, fishing and recreation. The Ministry is responsible for policy, development, operational management and implementation, and oversees over 50 statutes and associated regulations.

Job Requirements:
  • Demonstrated experience operating and maintaining farm or agricultural tractors (up to 90hp) and equipment (eg. Bobcats spray tanks etc.)
  • Manual labour or outdoor working experience; prefer experience working with plants; i.e. tree planter, gardener, landscaper, orchard worker, and cone picking, or equivalent training and experience.
  • Physically fit and able to lift supplies (i.e. bags of fertilizer, cones buckets, etc.) and operate equipment (i.e. ATVs, orchard lifts, pruners, weed eaters, mowers, etc.) on an on-going basis.
  • Able to work outdoors in all types of weather, including winter cold weather, and with potential allergens such as pollen, grass, insects, chemical pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers; as well as ability to work at heights using lifts and ladders.

This is a temporary opportunity until October 20, 2023 and may be extended.
1-seasonal auxiliary position is available at Skimikin Seed Orchard in Tappen.
