The Maintenance Manager reports to the General Manager, and will work closely with the Senior Maintenance Manager, who is based in Haliburton. The Maintenance Manager is a motivated individual with strong leadership skills and technical abilities. The Maintenance Manager will be primarily based between Huntsville Forest Products (HFP) in Huntsville and Almaguin Forest Products (AFP) in South River, but may be required to support the Senior Maintenance Manager in Haliburton and other communities from time to time.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following responsibilities are assigned to this position:

  • Provide direct, day-to-day supervision and guidance to a team of six unionized maintenance staff at HFP and four non-unionized maintenance staff at AFP, including millwrights, welders, and saw filers
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives relating to the performance of the sawmill, including installing new equipment, modifying existing equipment, and renovating facilities
  • Ensure preventative maintenance tasks are completed in a timely and efficient manner on an ongoing basis and inventories of spare parts are organized and maintained
  • Collective and monitor operating data in order to identify opportunities to reduce downtime, increase efficiency, increase production, and improve product quality
  • Perform all tasks in accordance with established Safe Work Practices and Standard Operating Procedures
  • Prepare budgets, forecasts, reports, and project plans when requested
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

The following criteria are the minimum qualifications required for this position. Training in some or all of the following fields:

  • Licensed Electrician
  • PLC and Programming
  • Process Engineering
  • Millwrighting and Machining
  • Welding and Fabrication
  • Saw Filing

Experience in some or all of the following fields:

  • 2 years, or more, as a lead hand, supervisor, or manager
  • 2 years, or more, in a fast-paced manufacturing environment

  • Self-motivated with strong organizational skills
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Flexibility to work overtime as required
  • Valid driver’s license

SUPERVISION:

This position requires the supervision of approximately ten maintenance staff, some of which are unionized (HFP) and some of which are not (AFP).

FINANCIAL:

This position does not have financial management responsibilities beyond developing project plans, purchasing and managing inventory, and writing follow-up reports.

TRAVEL:

This position requires regular travel between Huntsville and South River, as well as occasional travel to Haliburton, Palmer Rapids, and potentially other communities in central Ontario.

HOURS OF WORK:

This position requires a highly flexible 40-hour work week.

Hours are generally 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday.

COMPENSATION, BENEFITS & PERKS

Compensation will be determined based on the experience of the candidate. Similar to all positions with Haliburton Forest & Wild Life Reserve and its subsidiaries (including HFP and AFP), we offer recreational access to the 100,000 acres of private land owned and managed by Haliburton Forest & Wild Life Reserve.

This position offers three weeks of paid vacation with flexibility, as well as health benefits after 6 months.
