REPORTING TO: Robert MacNeil, General Manager

SALARY: To commensurate with education and experience

POSITION DESCRIPTION

D.P. Murphy Hotels is seeking an experienced Hotel Maintenance Manager for Hampton Inn Sydney. The Maintenance Manager is responsible for hands-on and overseeing of the maintenance department and staffing. The maintenance manager will work closely with the housekeeping manager and other departments of the operation, along with suppliers, contractors and guests to ensure an efficient and smooth operation. In our 24 hour - 7 day per week operation, the maintenance manager must be readily available at all times to handle situations, equipment malfunctions, preventative and reactive maintenance, weather conditions, etc. to provide a seamless facility for our guests and employees.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To welcome all hotel guests in a professional, courteous and hospitable manner, providing exceptional guest service levels all in accordance with Hampton Inn Sydney, Hilton and DP Murphy Inc. standards.
  • To adhere to policies and procedures pertaining to the safety and security of our hotel guests, employees and hotel assets communicating and reporting all concerns your immediate supervisor and/or the front office staff, or utilizing the services of security and/or Cape Breton Regional Police when deemed necessary.
  • Take immediate and positive action within the guidelines provided in the event of emergency alarms or situations of any nature.
  • To build, train, coach, guide, reward and recognize, manage, schedule and discipline a team of professionals in the maintenance department who will live by the Hilton and DP Murphy sets of values and principle work ethics in order to consistently deliver to our guests, an experience that will exceed their expectations.
  • To practice, promote and maintain procedures to ensure the guest rooms, swimming pool, waterslide and all public areas maintain the highest quality of cleanliness and repair as outlined by your departmental standards and those outlined to be under the guidelines of Hilton as it relates to the Hampton brand standards.
  • To practice, promote and maintain procedures for regular and routine maintenance of all facilities’ equipment, machinery, furniture or fixtures throughout the hotel.
  • To practice, promote and maintain procedures to carry out regular preventative maintenance programs in all guest areas, back of house and grounds to ensure the property is operating and presenting itself to the highest possible standards.
  • To practice, promote and maintain procedures necessary to carry out and/or assist with snow removal, gardening and grounds keeping as required.
  • To practice, promote and maintain procedures required to maintain an orderly and efficient workshop area so as to demonstrate organization and promote safety in the work environment.
  • To assist your team members wherever possible to streamline the operation with the guest experience in mind.
  • To maintain necessary operating supplies for the maintenance department and communicate any required items for re- ordering or re-stocking so as not to sacrifice guest service and the effective and efficient operation of the hotel.
  • To practice, promote and maintain procedures to ensure that at the end of each shift, the maintenance areas are cleaned and stocked for the following day’s smooth and efficient operation.
  • To ensure all on-line training requirements, as outlined by Hilton standards, is completed, practiced and utilized to ensure the most effective operation of the business.
  • To actively participate in regular hotel inspections, including public areas, room inspections, exterior walk-arounds, back of house, etc… in an effort to ensure the quality of cleanliness and repair is ever present throughout the hotel.
  • Demonstrate initiative in decision-making with the aim of maximizing guest service, ensuring guest and employee safety and safeguarding of hotel facilities.
  • To continually monitor maintenance expenses, including labour costs, to ensure that the department is operating cost effectively.
  • To prepare reports, forecasts or budgets as requested pertaining to the day to day operations of the maintenance of the building
  • Execute all reasonable additional assignments determined by supervisory or management personnel.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Hotel or facility maintenance management.
  • Expertise and strong working knowledge in physical plant with hot water boilers, HVA systems, swimming pool maintenance, laundry equipment, electrical, mechanical and plumbing.
  • Demonstrated experience in dry walling, vinyl installation, painting and carpentry.
  • The maintenance manager must be strong in many different areas, multi-tasking, prioritizing jobs, trouble-shooting issues, supplier relations, personnel development and much physical labour.
  • Much of the job involves leading, supporting and developing one’s team members, performance management, routine preventive maintenance, repairs, snow removal and landscaping work and the general upkeep of every part of the hotel.
  • Excellent record keeping and working within a budget is essential and a strong knowledge of computers is an asset.
  • Exceptional communication and strong interpersonal skills; innovative, resourceful and results oriented.
  • Must be a team player with a positive attitude and results oriented.
  • Must have own vehicle, a valid driver’s license and must be able to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays when required.
  • Criminal background check required
