The Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority (NPCA) is a community-based natural resource management agency that works to protect, enhance, and sustain healthy watersheds. With 60 years of experience, the NPCA offers watershed programs and services that focus on flood and hazard management, source water protection, species protection, ecosystem restoration, community stewardship, and land management.

The NPCA is one of 36 Conservation Authorities in the Province of Ontario. With 41 Conservation Areas within the Niagara Peninsula watershed, the NPCA manages lands that are held in public trust for recreation, heritage preservation, conservation, and education. The Opportunity

The Manager, Strategic Business Planning and Public Relations, will work to influence and execute business plans to deliver top quality support towards the Conservation Authority mandate. Excellent communication skills, combined with a customer service focus, diplomacy and tact, this integral role will provide support to the CAO by coordinating day to day management of the CAO office and strategic functions related to government relations, communications, public relations, operationalization of the Strategic Plan and associated performance reporting as well as facilitation of special projects.

Key Responsibilities Include:

· Provide executive support to the CAO by coordinating special initiatives and corporate projects related to Operationalization of the Strategic Plan, Business Planning and Performance Reporting

· Facilitate excellent customer service to NPCA stakeholders and partners

· Provide oversight and quality control to corporate communications, marketing, and brand management

· Lead the development and management of the NPCA annual report and other corporate publications

· Support program analysis and service improvement recommendations as needed

· Provide senior level administrative coordination, advice, and guidance to the CAO on key initiatives

· Prepare, edit, and coordinate response and communication material on behalf of the CAO

· Provide excellent team leadership and mentorship to staff

What you Bring

· 5years’ experience in a strategic management role focused on executive coordination, public relations, communications, and program management

· University degree in Environmental Science, Business, Public Administration, Public Relations, or a related discipline

  • Ability to work independently, in a politically sensitive environment, using sound judgement and ability to provide direction and oversight to staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead public consultation, facilitate meetings and negotiate contentious issues by employing effective communication with stakeholder groups, board members, politicians, and other project partners.
  • Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing; a strong command of grammar and writing skills for the purpose of proof reading and editing.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, including attention to detail, ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and work effectively with minimal supervision, deal with conflicting priorities and work demands.

· Knowledge of relevant environmental legislation, policies and plans, including conservation authority, provincial, federal, and municipal.

· Ability to work beyond normal business hours and flexible hours including weekends and evenings when necessary.
