Founded in 1995 as a non-profit society, Vancouver Farmers Markets (VFM) has grown to become one of Canada’s leading farmers market organizations with nine weekly markets, over 470,000 visitors per year, and annual vendor sales over $12 million. We operate vibrant and welcoming markets that feed people, build community and support small farms and producers in Vancouver, BC on the unceded territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) people. VFM is recruiting high energy, friendly and customer service-focused crew for our busy and vibrant markets across the city. Market Crews are made up of 2-4 people (depending on location) and report to the Market Manager.


Key Tasks & Responsibilities

  • providing market information, selling market merchandise to shoppers and vendors, meeting target sales goals
  • facilitating the set up and tear down of the market equipment including tents, umbrellas, tables, banners and other market materials
  • fundraising including membership sales, special events preparation and market promotions
  • arriving promptly 1-2 hours in advance of opening and remaining until closing procedures are complete
  • assisting with the management of market day volunteers and delegating appropriate work to them
  • helping with traffic control, parking information, neighbourhood directional signage and safety measures as required

Skills/Attributes Required

  • are able to commit for the entire market season and are reliable
  • have strong sales, retail, fundraising or customer service skills
  • enjoy working in a fast-paced outdoor environment (we work outside rain or shine)
  • are outgoing and friendly with a great work ethic and attitude
  • are team players and can work quickly and efficiently under tight time constraints
  • are self-directed and responsible
  • have no problem lifting up to 50lbs and standing for long periods of time
  • have no problem addressing crowds
  • have an interest in the following areas: agriculture, nutrition, food security, community health, community development, community economic development, rural and urban interface

We are always looking for people who may be interested in growing with us into management roles, who are able to work at more than one market, and who may be able to commit to working with us for the following winter season and beyond.


Candidates are especially sought if they have Level 1 Food Safe certification, current Basic First Aid training and/or a Class 5 driver’s license.


Candidates MUST be able to attend a group interview on March 16 at 6pm. Successful candidates must be able to attend an orientation on March 23 at 6pm as well as a 2 hour onsite training the weekend of March 25/26.


Due to our tight hiring timeline we will not be able to accommodate candidates unable to attend these sessions.


Wage: $22.08 per hour, paid lunch break + 4% vacation pay in lieu of benefits based on a 7-8 hour day
