Material Handler (Switchgear Assembly) - Day Shift Job at Powell

Position Summary

Based out of the Electrical Division Edmonton, (EDE) location, the Material Handler in Switchgear Assembly will report to the Senior Manufacturing Supervisor. The Material Handler will be responsible for loading and un-loading material, moving, handling, and organizing all incoming and outgoing materials. Current opening is for day shift.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Perform physical movement of materials from one area to another using handcarts, forklifts, cranes or pallet Jacks.
  • Prepares goods and materials for switchgear department, including: staging, loading, and documentation.
  • Ensure all received materials are organized and distributed to the correct personnel or placed production areas.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of all material and inventory supplies in the switchgear production area.
  • Work with co-workers, supervisors, and planners to ensure all material is delivered on time.
  • Promote a safety culture and attend all safety meetings.
  • Ensure quality by following standard work instructions and identifying any potential risks to product quality.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum education level of a High School Diploma is required.
  • Minimum 1+ years of Material Handling experience.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Basic level computer skills in MS Office; including Excel experience.
  • Valid forklift certification with a minimum of 1-2 years’ or prior experience.
  • Overhead crane experience or certificate is considered an asset.
  • Valid CSTS 2020 certificate.
  • Due to the safety sensitive nature of this position successful candidates will undergo pre-employment testing.

Working Conditions

  • Safety sensitive position in a temperature controlled manufacturing or industrial environment with occasional outside activities.
  • Required to wear personnel protective equipment at all times (i.e., hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety harnesses and respirators) when required.
  • Must be able to work from all type of ladders (step ladders, "A" frame ladders and all size extension ladders).

Physical Requirements

  • Able to maintain body equilibrium and agility to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, ascending or descending stairs.
  • Bending the body at the waist, the legs at the knees, and extending arms and hands in any direction in a repetitive manner continuously.
  • Continuous standing, walking 50-300 foot distances for long periods of time with only occasional sitting.
  • Able to frequently look over shoulders, work with both arms above shoulders and use both arms at full length frequently.
  • Using upper extremities to apply or exert a force continuously up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to use hand tools, such as: tin snips, hammer, and power tools (some vibrating), for long periods of time with frequent repetition.
