POSITION: Medical Secretary

UNIT: Mental Health Care – Outpatient Program

STATUS: Full Time

PAY RANGE $24.39 - $27.13


POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Medical Secretary will support and monitor daily organization and service of the outpatient clinic by providing a range of clerical, administrative, secretarial support to physicians and inter-professional team. Providing excellent patient customer service with an unpredictable population. This position will work collaboratively with other medical/patient support agencies and will be responsible for the scheduling and registering of patients.


HOURS:

Must be able to work 7.5 hour day shifts; Monday to Friday. In addition, the successful candidate must be flexible to occasional schedule changes, including evening or weekend hours, when required in order to meet operational needs.


SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Medical Office Administration/Health Care Office Administration certificate is required;
  • A minimum of six (6) months of experience within the last three (3) years of Medical Secretary experience is required;
  • A minimum of six (6) months previous experience working with a mental health population will be given preference;
  • Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act;
  • Ability to work in a busy environment where patients are experiencing emotional and mental health difficulties;
  • Ability to be a strong team player with excellent critical thinking and customer service skills;
  • Knowledge of medical and psychiatric terminology;
  • Knowledge of alpha and terminal digit filing systems;
  • General clerical experience including reception, filing, and intermediate computer literacy;
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills, including excellent telephone etiquette and ability to share important information to the team, our patients, and community support partners in an accurate manner;
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-task environment with minimal supervision utilizing effective organizational and problem-solving skills;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a strong patient/customer service focus;
  • Able to maintain a professional, calm and positive attitude while dealing with patients and families;
  • Ability to adapt and work within a constantly changing environment;
  • Excellent organizational skills;
  • High level of initiative and self-direction with proven problem solving abilities;
  • Demonstrated intermediate level computer knowledge and skills in the following: Cerner registration and scheduling, PowerChart, Microsoft Office, Adobe, Outlook , and Internet/Intranet Usage;
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis as per the STEGH Attendance at Work Policy;
  • Demonstrated previous performance reflective of the Mission, Vision, Values and Code of Conduct of STEGH

Successful candidates must provide evidence of a fully completed COVID-19 vaccination status prior to your first day of work.
