This is your opportunity to be part of a vibrant innovation leader. RPC has a full- time permanent position available for a Molecular Microbiology Technician, based at our Fredericton location. The successful individual will be working in our Applied and Experimental Biology Department (AEB) and report to the Director of AEB, via the Supervisor of Fish Health Services.

You will join a multi-skilled group of scientists and technicians in a state-of-the-art research and diagnostics laboratory. Work will consist of PCR-based testing, gel electrophoresis, nucleic acid extraction, and IFAT. The technician will also be involved with sample receiving and preparation, possible field work, sample analysis, and QA/QC in a commercial laboratory setting.

You will be provided with on-the-job training and will be expected to work independently thereafter with the support of scientists and other technicians. A training period in the Fredericton laboratory may be required depending upon qualifications.

Key Responsibilities:

· Providing fish health diagnostic services including necropsy procedure of fish, IFAT and RT-PCR analysis.

· Following containment standards and procedure according to AQCL2 laboratories.

· Reporting of results.

· Shipping and receiving of lab samples and complete any QMS related tasks as required.

· Performing daily QA/QC protocols and participating in related audits.

Requirements:

· B.Sc. in science or equivalent with a concentration in molecular biology, microbiology, immunology, biochemistry or equivalent combination of training and experience

· an aptitude for multi-tasking and working effectively in a fast-paced, laboratory environment

· attention for detail and proven problem-solving ability, pride in their work, and an aptitude for customer service

· Previous experience in a diagnostics laboratory with an accredited quality management system would be considered an asset

This is a full-time position. Hours of work are Monday to Friday from 8:15 to 4:30 with flexibility to work occasional overtime. Salary for this position will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
