n support of Ontario Shores’ mission, vision, values, and strategic direction, the Occupational Health & Wellness Nurse will provide quality nursing care to all employees of Ontario Shores, and facilitate successful work reintegration for ill/injured employees. Reporting to the Manager, Occupational Health & Wellness, the Occupational Health & Wellness Nurse, will utilize Occupational Health nursing standards of care and coordinate care management activities, to assist employees in developing and maintaining a high level of physical, mental, and social well-being in order to promote optimum work performance and quality of work life. The successful incumbent will be assisting with Pandemic Support, Influenza Campaign and Surveillance.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • providing emergency and palliative treatment for injury and illness and arranging follow up medical care as necessary;
  • crisis intervention, health counseling, and health teaching;
  • initial assessments on all new employees to ensure their good health and appropriate placement;
  • immunological services;
  • medical surveillance programs, as required;
  • follows medical directives as ordered by the Occupational Health Physician;
  • follow-up on reported incidents and/or injuries to staff;
  • assessing injured/ill employees for return to work in consultation with managers and physicians;
  • arranging transitional duties;
  • participating in health promotion and health education activities, as assigned;
  • maintaining health files and records and confidentiality of same;
  • other related activities within the Occupational Health & Wellness department, as assigned.

Qualifications Required and Preferred
  • R
egistered Nurse with current College of Nurses of Ontario registration in good standing;
  • Current CPR Level HCP certification
  • 3 years of experience in occupational health;
  • Working knowledge of professional practice standards, statutes and regulations, governing occupational health, wellness, and safety;
  • Knowledge of general nursing theory and practice and health activities;
  • Proven exemplary communication skills, with the ability to establish positive working relationships with staff and external agencies/organizations, while employing tact and diplomacy;
  • Effective interpersonal and team building skills;
  • Proven organizational, problem solving, time management, prioritization, coordination, facilitation, creative and critical thinking abilities;
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite;
  • Ability to perform the physical demands of the position; and
  • Proven good attendance record with the capability of maintaining this same standard.

QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:

  • Baccalaureate degree in a health service discipline;
  • Canadian Nurses Association Certification in Occupational Health Nursing COHN(C); and,
  • Working knowledge of computerized documentation (Parklane).
