Job Description

Position: Outdoor Education Specialist – 100% - 10 months

Location: Burrlington Outdoor Resource Centre

Salary: $26.87 - $28.18

This position is responsible for working with teachers, developing programs and delivering student field study activities at the Outdoor Resource Centres in compliance with Board policies and procedures.

Major Responsibilities:

  • To develop, plan, schedule and deliver Outdoor Education programs in collaboration with the Outdoor Education teacher or on his/her own.
  • To provide in-service sessions at scheduled events either in partnership with the Outdoor Education teacher or on his/her own.
  • To supervise students in seasonal/nature/outdoor based activities.
  • To assist in the development and review of “Search & Rescue” and emergency policies and procedures.
  • To assist in the purchase, maintenance, storage and inventory control of materials and equipment.
  • To prepare and maintain the site for seasonal/nature/outdoor based programs in collaboration with the Outdoor Education teacher.
  • To work as an active member of the Outdoor Education team
  • To attend professional development/training sessions as required
  • To attend meetings as required.
  • To perform other duties as assigned.

Line of Responsibility:

Responsible to the Principal responsible for Outdoor Education or designate.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications:

  • Secondary School Graduation Diploma with three years of post-secondary education in a related discipline is required.
  • Minimum one year related experience is required.
  • Current certification in First Aid and CPR is required.
  • A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and current Board approved/implemented software is required.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills are required.

Important Information for CUPE 1734 Members:
As per the Collective Agreement (A.11.7 and A.11.8), those twelve month employees filling vacancies as a result of a job posting are to remain twelve months at their positions. Ten month employees are to remain in their position until the end of the school year. The PVSC and E-PIC documents are only valid if issued within the last six months. Candidates are not advised to obtain this document prior to an offer of employment.
