Peer Assisted Care Team (PACT) Assistant Manager

We are seeking an Assistant Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of BC’s first civilian-led team consisting of a Peer Support Worker and a Mental Health Professional. This project is an alternative service to the emergency services on the North Shore and is attending mental health crisis calls in the evenings from Thursday to Sunday (these days may change as the project evolves) for individuals who are 13+. The successful candidate will be supervising a team who attends to residents of the North Shore, creates a non-judgmental space for their staff engages in the community, and meets individuals where they are at. They must have a strong understanding of the various barriers to access to the healthcare system, knowledge of community resources, and a perspective of cultural sensitivity. Inclusion and collaboration with local organizations and the residents of the North Shore are essential to effective program design and the successful implementation and delivery of programming.

As this is a new position, this role is best suited to someone who desires a dynamic role that can help develop and grow within. Since the job is to engage with the community and stakeholders, we require someone who can be flexible with their schedule to be able to access various community groups for their input.

Job Responsibilities

  • Reports to PACT Manager. Works in collaboration to support effective and sustainable growth and progress of the program
  • Engaging with community stakeholders. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to foster constructive relationships at all levels
  • Supporting day-to-day operations (including effectively managing workflow and timelines pertaining to a variety of projects/tasks simultaneously, in various stages of completion)
  • Identify appropriate tools and tactics to help staff meet engagement objectives, including in-person and digital engagement methods
  • Assisting with data entry,
  • Administrative duties such as scheduling and facilitating regular meetings, and others as required.
  • Understanding the need for advocacy, community collaboration, and maintaining integrity in the services that we offer
  • Supervise during PACT operating hours when PACT Manager is on vacation, or the staff team requires support in a crisis, and respond to incoming calls and text messages during operating hours.
  • Understanding peer work and the role it plays in the community
  • Ability to coordinate a dynamic team of staff members, hold space for them and be available for them during the entirety of the shift.
  • Understand and use trauma-informed practices, harm reduction, patient advocacy
  • Attend required department and clinic meetings and share in other responsibilities as relevant.
  • Complete all required training but not limited to ASSIST, Mental Health First Aid, Naloxone, Trauma-Informed Practices, etc.
  • Complete a 6-month probation period.
  • Participate in team meetings, continuing education, conferences, and/or corporate initiatives and engage in ongoing team planning, development, evaluation, and quality improvement activities.

Education and/ Or Experience Required

  • Experience working with people living with disabilities and/or multiple barriers including poverty, racism, trauma, non-dominant language, culture, sexuality or identified gender, and mental health or substance use challenges
  • Degree or Diploma in mental health or Counselling or Social Work. 5+ years of experience in the field of crisis de-escalation, mental health, substance use disorder, and Harm reduction
  • Ability to work from a harm reduction lens and understand inclusion, equity, and accessibility, as well as community mental health, recovery, and crisis intervention
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal). Strong facilitation skills, comfortable running interactive discussions with diverse audiences. Effective at tailoring approach to the audience
  • Experience in research is an asset, such as experience with participatory or client-oriented research with experience in survey design and analysis
  • The second language, Farsi- speaking and knowledge of the community is an asset.
  • 2 Years of Supervisory experience is required.
  • *We are looking for experience in the social services sector particularly, working with federal or provincial clients; acquiring knowledge of the continuum of housing and barriers to accessing safe and affordable rental markets; and serving socially marginalized or disadvantaged populations with complex and multifaceted needs. Sensitivity to clients with Aboriginal ancestry and disabilities.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR- C with AED
  • Basic computer and Internet literacy (including MS Word/Excel/Outlook, G-Mail)
  • Mental Health First Aid (or willingness to complete it)
  • Criminal Record Check is a condition of employment.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
  • De-escalation training and indigenous cultural competency training are recommended.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of a person and family-centered care, trauma-informed care, wellness model in mental illness, and psychosocial rehabilitation
  • Demonstrated ability to identify emotional, social, or environmental barriers and intervene to eliminate stigma.
  • Knowledge of harm reduction principles, crisis prevention, and intervention and conflict resolution

Hours of Work and Special Considerations:

Shift Timing: Tuesday, Wednesday, and every other Saturday or Sunday (6-7 hour shifts)
Start Date: ASAP

Wage Range: $28/hour
