Detailed Overview:
Obtains information necessary to complete patient's preadmission to the Hospital, completes admission documentation and performs related clerical duties.
Responsibilities:
  • Schedules and books appointments for the clinic by receiving lists of patients from Operating Room Booking or Physician's office, contacting individuals and encouraging attendance, adjusting arrangements in accordance with patient requirements when possible and assigning to the appropriate time and date.
  • Completes the patient's preadmission record by obtaining necessary information such as personal details through interviewing the patient. Prepares admission plate for the patient.
  • Ensures admission forms are complete, follows up as necessary to verify patient eligibility for Hospital programs coverage by sending inquiries to reference sources in accordance with the Ministry of Health policy.
  • Receives visitors, provides information, answers questions; answers phone, takes and forwards messages.
  • Performs clerical duties relating to the operation of the Clinic such as creating patient chart according to Hospital guidelines; where information is available completes patient chart forms and processes doctors' orders; files reports onto patient preadmission record.
  • Performs routine clerical duties such as typing letters, forms, reports; maintains supplies and submits reorders for approval as required.
  • Participates in the quality improvement activities of the Preadmission Clinic by providing input into the development of indicators, standards, practices and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience

Grade 12 and two (2) years' recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to keyboard at 40 w.p.m.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal effectively with others.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
