Our label printing facility in Langley, BC is looking for a Press Room Helper / Apprentice on day shift (5:30am to 2:00pm Monday to Friday) with flexibility to move back and forth between days and night shifts, with previous notice and time given. This position has a lot to offer in terms of advancement and the ability to 'make the job your own'.

JOB SUMMARY

The Flexographic press room helper / apprentice position will provide assistance to press operators, train to gain the skills needed to operate both traditional & digital hybrid flexographic presses and finishing equipment. This position will require shift flexibility. As knowledge and experience is gained, the helper/apprentice will be scheduled to cover press operator absences that occur throughout the year on both day shift and afternoon/evening shift.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO PERFORM THE JOB

  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and work cooperatively with others
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to perform math usually associated with the completion of high school
  • Strong ability to read & use imperial measurement rulers and work within the imperial measurement system.
  • Keen eyesight with the ability to differentiate colour
  • Strong computer skills with the ability to learn and use various industry software.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. several times daily

RESPONSIBILITIES ASSOCIATED WITH PERFORMING THE JOB

  • Read job tickets to understand all aspects of press runs.
  • Provide and verify stock for press runs and mount mill rolls on presses as required.
  • work hand in hand with shipping/receiving to ensure smooth distribution and return to inventory of raw materials.
  • Provide various inks and coatings to the presses. This includes mixing inks from base colours and the catalogue and return to inventory of unused inks.
  • Provide and stage to press various tooling such as cutting dies. Clean and return to inventory locations once press has finished with tooling.
  • Provide printing plates to press, including trimming, cleaning and mounting on print cylinders.
  • Clean / washup of ink trays and various rollers between jobs.
  • Carry out various cleaning and maintenance tasks. This includes daily weekly & monthly basic mechanical press maintenance.

Wage range: $23.00 - $25.00
