Job Description:

This is a 13 month Contract role

The Financial Operations team is looking for a Product Owner to join their team on a 1-year contract. The Product Owner will lead a team of cross skilled developers and have oversight of an end-user-computing tool that plays a critical role in Advisor reporting and compensation. This role will report to the Director, Individual Sales Systems & Compensation Design.

A Product Owner creates the product roadmap and defines the strategic vision for their team based on the overall organization’s vision. They have a deep understanding of the insurance industry, an interest in technology, and can advocate for user needs.

A Product Owner manages dependencies with other teams while identifying, building, and managing strategic partnerships with various stakeholders. They work closely within their team to ensure user feedback is translated into new developments.

What you will do:

  • Set ambitious and clear product vision and communicate vision effectively to stakeholders, the team, and the organization.
  • Manage a team of cross skilled developers.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure digital vision and products align within team strategy and requirements.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to establish each product’s business value, and support messaging, communication, and customer outreach as necessary.
  • Prioritize and manage items in the backlog.
  • Translate user needs into user stories and acceptance criteria for their team.
  • Determine end-to-end team output strategy from inception to production.
  • Facilitate planning with stakeholders.
  • Be accountable for product specific OKRs and communicate progress to stakeholders.

What do you need to succeed?
Proven knowledge of insurance space, 5+ years in industry with experience designing insurance products and channels

  • Strong technical knowledge and ability to support a technical team to deliver on your vision.
  • Strong collaborator with cross-functional teams from technology, design, business, and operations
  • Experienced in facilitating Agile ceremonies, managing a backlog/release plan, tracking team level metrics, removing blockers.
  • Experience with SAS EG or SAG Mainframe an asset

  • Ability to manage and lead the team to push the solution forward.
  • Strong communication skills with comfort speaking with business stakeholders and influencing others.
  • Ability collaborate & make decisions with squad Technical Lead
  • Skilled in handling change management.
  • Passion to challenge the status quo, find new solutions and drive out-of-the-box ideas.
  • Not afraid to “roll up the sleeves” and seeks to go outside comfort zone to learn, pushing teams to do the same.
  • Empowers others to fail, learn, and grow.
  • Encourages an experimental mindset to drive innovation.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
