For the past 85 years, Kawartha Dairy has been proud to be a 100% Canadian-owned company, still operated by the same family that founded it in 1937. Although the company has grown tremendously from its early days, it remains headquartered in the lakeside community of Bobcaygeon, Ontario, where it was founded, near Peterborough, an hour north of the GTA.


Today Kawartha Dairy operates 10 retail stores and services a wide range of customers, from grocery stores to foodservice establishments and of course, ice cream parlours.


Reflecting the explosive growth in the brand and the business as a whole, Kawartha Dairy has recently constructed a 54,000-square-foot warehouse just south of Bobcaygeon to serve its provincial operations. Investments are also underway to modernize the production plant, our systems and our infrastructure.


As a part of our close-knit Production Team as a Plant Labourer, you are responsible for ensuring good communication and cooperation between your co-workers while safely meeting company quality and production expectations; so we may continue to efficiently provide our top-notch dairy products to our loyal customers and creating memories for families.

Opportunity to learn various operational positions:

  • Follow all facility “good manufacturing procedures”, and strict adherence to all safety requirements, inclusive of PPE needs.
  • Operate product filling and packaging equipment within defined standard operating procedures.
  • Troubleshoot operational performance issues and contribute toward resolving.
  • Remain in control of product loss and quality issues and report same.
  • Pack cases of filled product and convey to palletizing.
  • Maintain work area free of product spillage or presence of wet floor surfaces.
  • Maintain records of production performance, finished goods production, as well as material and ingredient consumption.
  • Participate in minor mechanical adjustments to enable production reliability.
  • Maintain records on quality and fill conformance measurements.
  • Inspect filled container to ensure product is packaged according to specifications
  • Check for leaks and other minor defects
  • End of shift prepare for sanitation process. Disassemble equipment parts for washing.
  • Ability to learn and operate all plant filling and packaging operations.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by Supervisor.

What you Need to Get the Job Done:

  • High School Diploma required or a combination of equivalent experience
  • Previous machine operator or packing experience strongly preferred ideally from a food/beverage manufacturing environment
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes and related equipment is an asset
  • Good verbal and written communication skills to communicate effectively with others
  • Ability to discuss production issues in a constructive way with co-workers and Supervisor in a respectful, positive and collaborative manner
  • Eye/hand coordination is essential
  • Comfortable performing repetitive tasks
  • Manual dexterity and good hand-eye co-ordination
  • Extended periods of standing, and other physically demanding conditions (i.e. lifting up to 25kg)
  • Must be reliable
  • Able to work as a team member
