Overview:


The Production Manager is responsible to oversee all production activities at the Dundas Quarry which is Lafarge's largest limestone mining operation in Eastern Canada.


The Production Manager’s primary focus is to lead the health and safety of the production department while leveraging operational excellence to achieve the highest productivity at the lowest cost of production at all stages of the operation. In addition, the role is responsible for site inventory planning, tracking, and monthly reconciliations through production and survey reports. The Production Manager supports alignment and communication with all functional groups, including Safety, Environment, Land, and Manufacturing driving communication, consistency, and adherence to all policies and regulations. In addition, the Production Manager shares responsibility for Shipping at the side in conjunction with the Plant Manager. The Production Manager is part of the engagement with our neighbours and local communities supporting our Deep Roots campaign to ensure we are viewed as a valued member of the industry and local community.

Responsibilities:

Safety Culture:
  • Develop and instill a site level safety culture through consistent engagement with employees and contractors with an objective of “zero” harm; Lead daily huddles to demonstrate commitment to workplace safety;
  • Ensure front line employee compliance to all applicable local and regional health & safety policies and initiatives, including but not limited to hazard reporting, risk assessment, Working at Heights, Confined Space, Energy Isolation and Hot Work;
  • Assist in the preparation for and participation in periodic health & safety site audits; and assist in the administration of the site Contractor Safety Management program, by completing site orientations, where required, and regularly auditing contractor performance to ensure compliance to applicable local and regional health & safety policies.
  • Perform workplace inspections and participate in JHSC meetings and corrective actions follow up.
  • Perform incident investigations and reports.
Human Resources:
  • Directly responsible for the individual development, motivation and training of all direct reports to maximize their performance;
  • Responsible for the administration of disciplinary measures in a fair and consistent manner to address / correct substandard performance of all direct reports;
  • Assist in the site hiring process; Assist in the administration and management of local collective and hourly working agreements amongst all direct reports;
  • Promote, develop and drive customer focus, operational efficiency and performance management process within frontline teams;
  • Practice active and passive supervision of frontline teams.
  • Assist Plant Administrator with verifying time cards or other payroll related items.
Production Management:
  • Determine manpower requirements and shift scheduling (manage 6 week rolling and OT lists) for the entire site (70 employees) to meet production demands;
  • Establish and manage annual, weekly and daily production and maintenance schedule;
  • Manage and drive meeting all production targets;
  • Responsible for participating in the short-term planning and execution of maintenance activities along with the maintenance department.
  • Oversee maintenance of mobile equipment fleet, including:
    • Completion of mobile equipment inspections and correction of noted deficiencies;
    • Reviewing daily pre-trip inspection and action accordingly
    • External service report review and analysis;
    • Coordinating mobile equipment repairs & maintenance;
    • Tracking work order completion and fleet PM
    • Oversee the procurement of all subcontractors related to production and mobile equipment.
Financial Management:
  • Assisting in the development and adherence to annual maintenance (repair) budgets;
  • Participate in monthly EBIT reviews to ensure accuracy and to identify cost reduction opportunities;
  • Responsible to manage production and inventory forecasting to optimize yield and profitability;
  • Support supply chain with balancing inventories and sales needs to manage and minimize the working capital impact.
  • This would entail complete responsibility for the management of the SPI tool including survey reconciliation.
  • Participate in development of 3-Year plans for capital investment at the site.
Shipping and Customer Focus:
  • Assist in the management of frontline shipping personnel;
  • Coordinate with sales and dispatch personnel to ensure daily customer requirements are met;
  • Management of stockpile inventories;
  • Coordinate with Quality and Commercial teams to address shipping quality issues.
Land Management:
  • Responsible for short-term planning and execution of activities in accordance with the Mining Plan;
  • Ensures site level compliance to Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) requirements, including but not limited to site plans, rehabilitation and dust control.
Environmental Management:
  • Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of the site Environmental Management System (EMS);
  • Manages daily water taking data to ensure compliance with Permits to Take Water (PTTW) at all respective sites.
  • Assist in preparation for and participate in environmental site audits;
  • and ensure all direct reports comply with operational standards developed to manage activities and mitigate our environmental impact. Manage water balance of the quarry.
Community Relations:
  • Act as the secondary contact with relevant stakeholders in the local community, including neighbours, competitors and government officials.

  • 5 MT of Aggregate production & sales
  • 3 Direct Report and 40 Hourly Employees
  • Sites: All quarry operations along with Processing Yard
Qualifications:

  • University Degree in Engineering or Business
  • A Master’s degree would be asset.
  • A minimum of five years Supervisory/Managerial experience working in a similar environment
Experience and Skill Set
  • Understanding of general accounting principles is an asset
  • Good organization and planning skills
  • Strong proficiency with key computer applications including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Power Point) and SAP, this is critical to the role.
  • Knowledge of the aggregate industry is preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communications
  • Strong analytical skills, research, problem solving and decision making
  • Good time management, self-directed, uses time wisely, can attend to a broad range of activities
