Job Description

Join our Group Benefits technology team! We are looking for a creative and collaborative software engineer to join our team.

Responsibilities:

  • R esponsible for ensuring production delivery and ongoing operations of applications within the technology team.
  • Builds, codes, tests, maintain high quality software per specifications and standards.
  • Participate in agile sprints and ceremonies; supports rapid iteration and development.
  • Translates user requirements into software requirements.
  • Designs, develops, tests, delivers, maintains and improves business applications as a member of a team
  • Assists in crafting solutions and working with architects on technical roadmap.
  • Integrates new features and functionality as defined by the PO and team.
  • Applies creative problem solving that bring software designs to life.
  • Builds apps, APIs and data solutions to drive projects.
  • Participates in conceptualisation and brainstorming sessions to devise creative and innovative digital solutions.
  • Performs various investigative "Spikes" in order to mitigate technical uncertainty and risk.
  • Assists in the development of automated test harnesses as necessary to ensure delivery of high quality code.
  • Updates progress daily through the tracking tool (Jira) or Kanban board.
  • Completes and ensures completion of any required documentation required e.g. deployment, maintenance, support and business needs.
  • Assist the Product Owner to refine the Product Backlog including providing initial estimates.



Job Requirements:

  • Provide on-call support within a high availability environment.
  • Familiarity with agile and DevOps principles, test-driven development, continuous integration/deployment, and other approaches to accelerate the delivery of new features.
  • Understanding of software development lifecycle.
  • Understanding of how technology supports Manulife business strategy.
  • Familiar with platform technologies.
  • Familiar with modern software architectures and API-driven development.
  • Familiar with scripting languages.
  • Prioritizes efficient code production by using open-source frameworks and patterns.
  • Attends advanced training sessions and is certified on multiple domains of expertise.
  • Experience with technologies such as: .NET 4.7.2 and higher, ideally .NET Core 3 or higher, , ASP.NET, WEBAPI, Javascript, JQuery.
  • Other nice to have: Cloud Architecture, Azure, Docker, GitHub/GitLab, Jenkins. Concourse, SonarQube, Artifactory, Snyk.
  • Hands-on RDBMS experience (data modeling, analysis, programming, stored procedures).
  • Good foundation in data structures, algorithms, and OO Design with rock-solid programming skills.

Salary & Benefits

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

Primary Location

Waterloo, Ontario

Salary range is expected to be between

$72,450.00 CAD - $134,550.00 CAD
