Summary of responsibilities

The overall function of the Program Clerk is to assist our patients, caregivers and community to manage clinical conditions and transitions, maximise the patient’s self-care abilities, as well as embody a culture of caregiver inclusion in the patient’s plan of care.

The Program Clerk supports unit function (maintains Ministry required data entry, maintains office supplies and orders unit supplies as needed), patient care (responds to requests from patients and or families) and department communication (answers/places telephone calls, communicates with departmental and other staff, handle mail, complete consultations as needed) and participates in unit-related programs and other related duties as assigned.

Requirements of the job

  • Completion of Ontario Secondary School Diploma
  • Medical Terminology (tested with a pass mark of 75% or greater)
  • Medical Office Assistant Course or related experience
  • Working knowledge of Word, StaffRight, Excel, Cerner (Powerchart and Capacity Management applications) CCIS data entry portal
  • Good understanding of Emergency Response Codes/Program and payroll coding procedures.
  • Good interpersonal skills necessary to interact with and engage patients and their families.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with physician's offices regarding scheduling
  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand instructions, memos, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to do basic arithmetic to complete reports
  • Demonstrated ability to schedule appointments and consultations with multiple services
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position
  • Typing speed of 45 w.p.m.
  • Demonstrated commitment to patient safety
  • Functional level in both official languages (oral and written in English; oral in French)
