Child and Youth Advocacy Centre – Durham Region

About:

A Child & Youth Advocacy Centre (CYAC) is a child-focused centre in which multi-disciplinary teams provide coordinated, seamless, interdisciplinary services to children and youth who have experienced abuse or maltreatment. CYACs aim to provide trauma-responsive, culturally safe and accessible services that are child and family centred. A partnership among local Indigenous, community and government agencies, a Durham CYAC will bring together all professionals involved in child abuse cases to reduce the child’s trauma in repeatedly telling their experience of abuse.

The developing Durham CYAC is founded on an accessible, anti-oppressive, anti-racist, inclusive equity framework. The CYAC will provide services in a way and delivered in a setting that is inclusive and meets the individual’s unique needs, recognizing the intersectionality that can occur for clients including:

Indigenous worldview

Gender identity and expression

Sexual orientation

Anti-black racism

Addressing visible and invisible barriers to services

Victim Services of Durham Region (VSDR) is a non-profit, community-based organization that is dedicated to providing assistance to individuals who have been impacted by crime or sudden tragedy. We work to prevent violence through awareness and education. We also provide prevention programming and training for parents, professionals, youth and the community.

Victim Services of Durham Region is seeking a Program Manager to plan and coordinate the development of a Child and Youth Advocacy Centre in Durham Region.

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Complete the development, implementation and drafting of policies, partner agreements and Memoranda of Understanding pertinent to the multi-disciplinary collaboration and coordination of services within an Anti-Oppression, Anti-Racism, Equity Framework.

· Support with the development and drafting of protocols and service pathways for multi-disciplinary procedures, case documentation, information sharing and other areas as needed.

· Support with the coordination and delivery of multi-disciplinary training programs pertinent to the operation of a CYAC.

· Oversee the development and launch of CYAC website.

· Conduct site explorations and cost analyses for possible future centralized location.

· Researching and identifying appropriate case management database as required.

· Prepare for, attend and participate in CYAC Development committee meetings.

· Build and maintain strong working relationships with key partners, community groups, and those with lived experience.

· Promote public awareness of and support for the CYAC by producing educational and promotional materials and attending community events as required.

· Oversee the development of a Fundraising and sustainability plan.

Experience, Training and Educational Requirements:

· Bachelor of Social Work or related social services field is required.

· Experience in collaborative, cross-sectoral program development and/or project management in the social services sector.

· Experience/knowledge about the criminal justice system, child welfare, programs and services for child/youth victims of crime and community support services.

· Excellent oral and written communication and/or organizational skills. Ability to multi-task, set priorities and meet deadlines.

· Strong interpersonal skills and ability to maintain strong working relationships.

· Proficient in computer applications such as Microsoft Office.

· Solid understanding and demonstrated experience in and commitment to trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, anti-racist practices and equity, diversity and inclusion

· Knowledge of intergenerational trauma and understanding of systemic barriers faced by BIPOC individuals.

· A strong commitment to social justice, cultural safety and a wholistic approach in program development and community collaboration.

Working Environment:

· Initial and ongoing employment is subject to an acceptable Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector check.

· The ability to travel within Durham Region and provide own transportation.

· May be required to work flexible hours (evenings, weekends) on an infrequent basis.

· Position offers benefits to take effect upon successful completion of probationary period. Eligibility for OMERS pension effective January 1, 2023.
