The Canadian Society for Mucopolysaccharide & Related Diseases (Canadian MPS Society) is seeking a part-time (approx. 20 - 25 hours per week) Programs Assistant to join our small team. The Canadian MPS Society provides support to individuals and families affected by mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS) and related diseases. Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Programs Assistant will assist in the delivery of all programs of the Canadian MPS Society.

Responsibilities:

Plan and implement member outreach & communications activities, including monthly digital newsletters, website content, and social media engagement

Assist members with information and referrals to appropriate resources - i.e. peer support, financial aid, educational support, etc.

Assist with fund development, special initiatives, events, and campaigns

Support the Executive Director in advocating on behalf of members

Mobilize members to participate in organizational events & campaigns

Assist in providing direction and support to volunteers

Perform routine administrative duties such as maintenance of member records, tax receipting, donor communications, preparation of program materials, staff support to Board committees, and attendance at staff meetings

Skills & Qualifications:

Familiarity with issues relevant to the care, treatment, and support of people living with rare diseases; personal experience as a patient or caregiver strongly valued

Excellent listening & communication skills; preference to those who have the ability to work professionally in English and French.

Previous experience facilitating community/member engagement activities; experience with program management and implementation an asset

Experience writing and sourcing relevant content for newsletters, website, social media channels, and promotional materials.

Graphic design experience and/or ability to quickly learn graphic design and communications software valued.

Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with people from diverse backgrounds

Skills in supervising and motivating volunteers would be an asset

Strong technological literacy with the ability to learn new systems and troubleshoot problems independently; experience with website maintenence and database management would be an asset

Strong organizational, planning, and time-management skills

Ability to work as part of a team and without close supervision

Ability to work flexible hours based upon program needs

The Programs Assistant will work approximately 20-25 hours a week in a flexible, home-based position. The successful candidate must be comfortable working in a self-directed manner from home, while collaborating remotely with the Executive Director, members and volunteers across the country. Access to a home office - including an up to date computer, secure internet, and mobile phone - is required.

This is a contract position with the potential to become an employee position after a 6 month probationary period.
