Role and objectives:

Kalesnikoff has an opportunity for a focused and detail-oriented Project Accountant with strong interpersonal skills to join our team at our sawmill office between Nelson and Castlegar, BC. Reporting to the Controller, the Project Accountant will be responsible for providing analysis, financial accounting and reporting while identifying areas for improvement.


Responsibilities:

  • Administer financial duties for projects from inception to completion
  • Manage financial setup of projects in our ERP system
  • Maintain full project tracking records, including % complete, retention/holdbacks, amounts billed, balance remaining, and changes to contract values such as additions and change orders.
  • Manage our USA sales tax collection and remittance system for all states that we conduct our business in.
  • Interpret trade contractor documentation for accounting-related items
  • Ensure proper documents & requirements are in place including: Worksafe letters, insurance, bonding, statutory declarations, and lien waivers as needed
  • Assemble client billing packages in a timely manner in accordance with contract terms and conditions
  • Provide billing information to customers and/or customer billing web-based interfaces.
  • Maintain accurate and timely cash flow data
  • Progress and process contracts appropriately
  • Work with project managers to determine interim invoicing and to process project costs accurately
  • Lead the development and automation of the customer invoicing process within our emerging ERP system.
  • Develop and maintain our customer credit policy with responsibility for issuing credit to customers.
  • Follow up with customers on outstanding accounts receivable and manage the collections process as needed.
  • Record, reconcile, and report certain cost input information monthly that is required to analyze and report project profitability as well as entity wide profitability.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant policies and procedures
  • Assist in the ongoing development, data accumulation and reporting of Key Performance Indicators required for decision making and achieving the Company’s Strategic Goals

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Finance or Commerce
  • Minimum 2 years of work experience in finance, ideally with a manufacturing background
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • A professional accounting designation (e.g. CPA) is preferred
  • Strong financial data analysis skills
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and relevant accounting software
  • Experience working within an ERP System considered an asset
  • Ability to provide financial advice and guidance to non-financial departments or teams
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a team environment
