QUALITY & PATIENT SAFETY SPECIALIST, FT Job at Niagara Health System

Reporting to the Manager, Quality and Patient Safety the successful candidate will function as the lead in the development of a culture of safety and performance excellence for the Niagara Health. Duties will include but not be limited to serving as an internal facilitator and coach to all levels of staffing to assist in the planning, coordination and evaluation of quality improvement initiatives and patient safety practices; identify relevant quality and patient safety related training needs and delivering such training; and involvement in the creation and updating of policies and procedures in accordance with best practice and patient safety improvements.
As a member of the Quality, Patient Safety & Risk Management team, the successful candidate will provide support to the Manager and Director as well as participate in the departmental on-call schedule and work outside regular hospital business hours as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
o Bachelor's degree required (in a health related discipline, Business or Industrial Engineering)
o Two years recent clinical experience in an acute care setting and/or in a formal Quality Improvement Role and/or active involvement in leading Quality Improvement initiatives at the corporate level
o Improvement Advisor certification through the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), certification in Lean and/or related quality improvement methodology (eg. Six Sigma). Project Management certificate
o Working knowledge and application of relevant legislation including the Excellent Care for All Act
o Demonstrated knowledge and experience with chart audits, performance measurement, data reporting and analysis
o Expertise in, Quality Improvement tools (eg. process mapping/flow diagrams, cause and effect diagrams, pareto charts, creativity methods, affinity diagrams, force field analysis, tree diagram, FMEA, etc.) and the IHI Model for Improvement
o Knowledge of patient safety, risk management principles and strategies
o Working knowledge of electronic incident management systems (e.g. RiskPro)
o Evidence of effective customer service, organizational, interpersonal, communication, leadership, judgment, critical thinking and decision-making skills
o Computer skills in MS Word and PowerPoint, Email, Internet required
o Working knowledge of and Quality Improvement software (eg. MS Visio)
o Proficiency in Microsoft Office Excel and Access .
o Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team and with a variety of levels of staff across departments and the organization
o Proficiency in both official languages (English and French) will be considered an asset.
o Consistent and regular attendance required
o Vaccines (COVID-19 and others) are a new hire requirement of the job unless you have an exemption based on medical or on a ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code
