What will you do at Ciena as a R&D Software Engineer?

You will be working with the R&D Lab Management Tools team to aid in the development, support, and maintenance of key applications used to support the development and release of products. The selected applicant will get exposed to a wide range of tools, operating systems, and processes across Ciena. The team manages the inventory tracking system that provides up to the minute information of more than ¼ million lab items via database and web-based software globally.

Responsibilities & Activities:

Working in an agile development environment, with end to end responsibilities from requirements gathering to implementation and deployment.

Applying the latest industry technologies (Linux, Docker, Cloud) to develop and support in-house, open source, and commercial software.

Developing software which would include enhancing existing tool features, creating new features and support of an in-house inventory management tool GEMS.

Contribute to technical discussions, documentation, design, testing and code reviews.

Participate in software feature deployments to the production environment.
What technical experience and personal skills are required for this role?

A degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent.

Experience or strong willingness to learn a subset of the following:

Programming Languages: Java (including Spring/Hibernate), Perl, Python, shell scripting

Web Technologies: HTML 5, JavaScript, CSS, AngularJS, REST

Databases: Oracle, PostgreSQL

Deployment Technologies: Docker, OpenStack, Ansible

Version Control Systems: Git, Perforce

Operating Systems: Linux

Be a team player, self-motivated, possess excellent communications skills and is eager to learn.
