The Intensive Community Crime Prevention Program (ICCP) Regulated Clinician is a key member of the multidisciplinary team who provides assessment, treatment (structured group and individual therapy cognitive based treatments) that are effective for posttraumatic stress disorder, acute stress disorder, adjustment disorders, interpersonal trauma, substance and co-occurring disorders, depression, and various anxiety disorders. The Regulated Clinician provides case navigation, crisis intervention, community outreach and advocacy and consultation services in a manner consistent with KHSC’s (HDH Site) Mission, Vision and Values and that reflects the core values of Patient and Family Centred Care (dignity, respect, information sharing, participation, and collaboration); the Regulated Clinician will support a healthy workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork, and practices in accordance with the standards of professional practice and ethical values as defined by their respective College; participates in service and hospital-wide activities and programs that model and promote a safe and healthy patient-centered environment and that contribute to quality improvement and risk management initiatives. This position is assigned to the Hotel Dieu Hospital Site Adult Mental Health Program and based in the community at the One Roof Kingston Youth Hub site.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of DSM-V diagnostic criteria for psychiatric disorders most prevalent with youth and adults.
  • Highly developed clinical skills in interviewing, psycho-social and risk assessment, treatment (individual, group and family therapy) crisis intervention and cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) with youth and young adults.
  • Provides individual and group therapy sessions, instruct other mental health staff in therapeutic techniques, provide crisis interventions, and arranges for alternative community services when needed; training in CBT, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and solution-focused brief therapy is preferred.
  • Design individualized treatment plans collaboratively with the outpatient based on assessed needs and risk assessment, e.g., suicidality, self-harm, or other safety risks, in conjunction with the interdisciplinary team, as appropriate.
  • Initiate appropriate time-limited individual and/or group psychotherapeutic interventions, providing evidence-based therapies for posttraumatic stress disorder, acute stress disorder, adjustment disorders, substance and co-occurring disorders, depression, and anxiety disorders, such as, cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and dialectical behaviour therapy and other empirically supported modalities, e.g., BSFT, SST, CPT, IPT, EMDR.
  • Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial clinical assessment interviews with each new patient.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Ontario Mental Health Act, Health Care Consent Act, Powers of Attorney Act, Substitute Decisions Act, Personal Health Information Act, and other relevant legislation.
  • Is accountable for decisions and actions when acting independently or when acting in consultation and collaboration with other members of the program team.
  • Creating treatment plans with patients and their families, and maintaining patient records in accordance with privacy legislation while completing assessments, preparing reports, monitoring progress toward treatment goals and conducting regular reviews of active treatment plans.
  • Extensive knowledge of evidence based practice and current experience in the assessment and treatment of complex mental health disorders
  • Knowledge of assessment and treatment for substance use, addiction and concurrent disorders is an asset.
  • Facilitates the integration of evidence-based best practices into professional services.
  • Strong communication skills and confidence in social work scope of practice and articulating this within a health care setting.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity and awareness of the stigma frequently experienced by persons carrying a diagnosis of a psychiatric disorder.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, allied health and nursing professionals and external agency representatives
  • Highly developed communication, presentational & documentation as well as strong mentoring & coaching skills
  • Effective organizational & time management skills
  • Capable of coping in a physically & mentally demanding work environment
  • Proficiency with current versions of MS Office software
  • Recognizes and responds effectively to unexpected situations.
  • Maintains privacy, confidentiality, and the security of client, staff, and organizational data.
  • Initiates and maintains community liaison with other community agencies, groups, and service stakeholders.
  • Contributes to an environment of mutual respect and understanding.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Educational background/professional designation in one of the following regulated professions:
  • Social Work: Masters of Social Work Degree from an accredited university, and Member in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers or
  • Psychotherapy: Registered in good standing or eligible for registration (within 3 months of start date) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. Completion of Master’s Degree in Psychology, Master’s Degree of Science in Psychotherapy, Masters of Arts in Counselling Psychology required
  • Demonstrated training and clinical supervision providing evidence-based therapies for PTSD, interpersonal trauma, substance and co-occurring disorders, depression and anxiety disorders is required, such as, cognitive behavioural therapy, motivational interviewing, and dialectical behaviour therapy and other empirically supported modalities, e.g., BSFT, SST, CPT, IPT, EMDR.
  • Significant clinical experience in the assessment and treatment (individual and group) of: PTSD and interpersonal trauma, substance use and co-occurring disorders, mood, and anxiety disorders, using evidence-based modalities.
  • Demonstrated assessment and therapy skills with expertise in individual, couple, family, and group work required.
  • Current enhanced security clearance (criminal reference check) for vulnerable populations administered by the Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC)
  • A minimum of three years’ experience providing direct clinical services within a mental health interdisciplinary service.
  • Significant clinical experience in non-violent crisis intervention and de-escalation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of addiction and mental health disorders across populations and experience in using the DSM-V diagnostic system.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation (e.g., Regulated Health Care Professions Act, Psychotherapy Act, Mental Health Act, Personal Health Information Protection Act, Health Care Consent Act, and Substitute Decisions Act) as well as commitment to upholding the principles of the Code of Ethics of the College of Psychotherapists.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Excellent critical thinking, problem-solving, decision-making, time management, planning and evaluation skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of conflict resolution and ability to offer and receive constructive feedback.
  • Superior knowledge of the addictions and mental health system, services and resources and ability to facilitate referrals.
  • Experience working with forensic populations preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience working with clients to reduce their criminality through reductions in criminogenic risk factors preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to function independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of applications.
  • Bilingualism (French and English) preferred.
  • Satisfactory criminal reference check and vulnerable sector search required.
  • Proven ability to attend work regularly.
