Important Leadership Opportunity - Regional Indigenous Cancer Lead
The Erie St Clair Regional Cancer Program (ESC RCP) is recruiting a Regional Indigenous Cancer Lead (RICL) who will establish and guide productive relationships by embedding and formalizing First Nation, Inuit, Métis, and Urban Indigenous communication and engagement provisions to implement, measure, and sustain successful initiatives. The Lead will be essential to successful engagement and collaboration across varying primary care settings advocating and addressing the primary care needs of Indigenous people in their respective regions.
Under the leadership of the Regional Vice President (RVP), all Regional Leads, and the program areas that they are responsible for, are required to collaborate to support implementation of Ontario Cancer Plan (OCP) initiatives (including initiatives focused on transitions in care, symptom assessment and management, coordination of care etc.).

Indigenous Advisory and Strategic Collaboration
- Champion the First Nations, Inuit, Métis and Urban Indigenous Cancer Strategy (Strategy 4) strategic vision and goals in collaboration with the RVP, Clinical Leads, Indigenous Patient Navigator, Indigenous Coordinator, Regional Program Manager(s), and other regional staff
- Provide educational opportunities on evidence-based clinical guidelines, standards and policies as directed by the Indigenous Cancer Control Unit (ICCU)
- Identify and respond to regional-level system issues related to Strategy 4 and/or First Nation, Inuit, Métis and Urban Indigenous specific cancer needs
- Collaborate with the other regional clinical leads in the implementation, consistency and sustainability of Strategy 4 both within and between programs
- Work collaboratively with regional networks and staff including Regional Director and Regional Primary Care Lead(s) (RPCLs)
- Collaborate with the Provincial Primary Cancer Care Network (PPCCN) in developing effective strategies for engaging primary care in support in the implementation of the OCP as it relates to First Nations, Inuit, Métis and Urban Indigenous
- Participate in the PPCCN activities:
o Eight webinars (2 hours per month)
- Participate in provincial Indigenous expert/community panels, including guidelines development panels and research projects as required from time to time
Work with the RVP and Regional Cancer Screening (CS) staff to implement Strategy 4 Strategic Priority on screening with a focus on the following:
- Working with the Regional CS staff to identify screening participation targets for First Nations, Inuit, Métis and Urban Indigenous people with all three elements of cancer screening (colorectal, breast and cervical cancer)
- Support the design and implementation of regional campaigns based on the learning from the Under and/or Never Screened initiatives
- Support primary care providers to improve screening practices with Indigenous people to:
o Facilitate processes to enable the prompt assessment of abnormalities for those who are screened but are without a designated family physician or primary healthcare provider; this does not include clinical responsibility for individual cases
- Support the design and implementation of Knowledge Transfer and Exchange activities related to Indigenous education, and advise on the design and development of decision tools, guidelines and other materials for Indigenous patient care
- Supporting broader mandate of Strategy 4 in building relationships, prevention, survivorship, and palliative care. They will work with provincial & regional leadership from these program areas to plan the work as these are new domains for the primary care engagement in cancer for Indigenous populations.

Qualifications: Practicing primary care provider including physicians and nurse practitioners or primary care nurse (RN/NP) with an understanding of Indigenous communities
Accountability
Direct accountability to the RVP, ESC RCP and indirect accountability to the CCO Director, Indigenous Cancer Control Unit (ICCU)
Term
The Regional Indigenous Cancer Lead may be appointed for up to a three-year renewable term by the RVP.
Reporting
Attend quarterly performance review sessions with CCO
Complete the appropriate section of the Integrated Cancer Program Comprehensive Year-End Report
Attend quarterly Regional Clinical Lead Meetings
Attend regular meetings as required and arranges with the RCP administrative team to ensure work plan deliverables are on track.
Compensation
The equivalent of 1 day/week (0.2FTE) up to $20K/year (pro-rated to date of recruitment)
