Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Lead of Health Research Methods and Analytics and Dr. Abdel Aziz Shaheen, the Senior Analyst works with internal and external researchers to answer research questions primarily using the provincial administrative data and the electronic medical records in Alberta.

Description:

The Senior Analyst will use their expert programming skills and statistical knowledge to support operational and research priorities related to chronic liver diseases that can be answered using various data platforms. The Senior Analyst will derive complex concepts and work with many different health related datasets (e.g. Electronic medical record data, Discharge Abstract Database, National Ambulatory Care Reporting System, Pharmaceutical Information Network, Laboratory data, DOSE, Vital Statistics) in an organized manner and with great attention to detail. The Senior Analyst will be expected to perform statistical analysis (descriptive statistics and more advanced analysis including inferential and predictive statistics) as well as provide interpretations and methodology recommendations while being able to present findings in various formats. The Senior Analyst will also assist with the preparation of manuscripts and grant applications including creating tables and figures and assisting with writing and critical review to ensure appropriate content and accuracy. The successful candidate will join a team of dedicated individuals with various analytical backgrounds in an exciting research environment. All Non-Union Exempt positions are being reviewed for possible inclusion in the AUPE General Support Services bargaining unit. If this position is impacted, the incumbent will be notified accordingly.

Required Qualifications:

Minimum PhD in a quantitative or computing discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Statistics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology or a related field) At least 1 year experience working in an analytical environment. At least 1 year experience working in a hepatology and gastroenterology research setting. Strong communication and writing skills. Ability to prioritize and triage multiple projects at the same time.

Preferred Qualifications:

Familiarity with administrative data platforms in Alberta. Strong SAS and/or R programming skills including familiarity with macros. Strong programming (SQL, Python, R, SAS) skills. Experience working with Canadian administrative health datasets (e.g., DAD, NACRS). Familiarity with creating Tableau reports and dashboards. Experience working in a research environment. Strong programming skills in a statistical language (SAS and/or R preferred).
