Reporting to the Senior Project Manager, the Senior Mechanical Superintendent is responsible for motivating and engaging a team of Mechanical Superintendents and Forepeople s as they plan, schedule, coordinate and direct all aspects of the mechanical project installation. The Senior Mechanical Superintendent will be responsible for overseeing teams in Fort St. James, Williams Lake, and Kamloops.


Specifically, the Senior Mechanical Superintendent will ensure the on-site coordination for all phases of the project, including coordinating subcontractors, materials and equipment, ensuring that specifications are being strictly followed, and work is proceeding on schedule and within budget. The Senior Mechanical Superintendent shall also ensure that all scheduling, inspections, quality control, and job site safety are conducted as per policy.


Essential Functions / Major Responsibilities of Superintendent:


  • Lead by example; work alongside, lead, supervise and direct the site team.
  • Develop short-term and long-term schedules in collaboration with the Senior Project Manager and Site Superintendent and Forepersons..
  • Plan and schedule tasks for site foremen and journeymen.
  • Establish standard site work hours.
  • Help eliminate job site clutter and over-ordering from the shop
  • In Partnership with the Project Manager, develops a strong understanding of the project scope, reviewing documentation for consistency and issuing RFI’s as required.
  • In Partnership with the Project Manager, develop and enforce the project-specific health and safety policy.
  • In Partnership with the Project Manager, develop and enforce the project-specific QAQC program.
  • Ordering of materials and equipment to suit the site installation.
  • Coordination with the shop and PMP modellers for site-required items.
  • Direct and monitor sub-trade works to ensure the installation is in line with the project documents.
  • Monitor and report on-site installation to ensure activities are in line with the project schedule, adjusting the team and/or tasks as required.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • Must have a strong understanding of the project specifications
  • Must have a basic understanding of the contract requirements

Job Scope:


  • The Senior Superintendent, in partnership with the Senior Project Manager, is responsible for, and will be held accountable for, the timely completion of the project and ensuring that the project is constructed in strict accordance with plans, specifications, and local codes.

  • The Senior Superintendent shall be responsible for mentoring and overseeing Superintendents and Forepersons to ensure that the work is performed in accordance with plans and specifications. Conflicts or revisions to the plan shall be communicated with the project team for mutual resolution, prior to execution of work that deviates from the approved plans.

  • The Senior Superintendent, in partnership with the Senior Project Manager and the QAQC Officer shall establish and enforce job site quality control programs to ensure quality completion of construction.

Supervisory Responsibility:


  • The Senior Superintendent shall directly supervise all assigned Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, and Foremen who in turn supervise all site personnel. This supervision shall also ensure adequate manpower is available for each task.

  • Blueprint reading.
  • Endurance and ability to visit the entire job site, including stairs or other elevated structures.
  • Monitoring job site general health and safety.
  • Be able to take direction

Education and/or Experience


  • A minimum of 20 years in the mechanical construction industry.
  • A minimum of 5 years as a Mechanical Superintendent.
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with personnel of other departments.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in writing and orally.
  • Formal training in construction management would be an asset.
  • The ability to use Bluebeam, AutoDesk products and/or NavisWorks would be an asset.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office products.
  • Be able to adapt to new systems as they come into practice
  • Strong understanding of all types of plumbing and mechanical systems
