Position Summary
The Senior Server Specialist is responsible for the administration, maintenance and troubleshooting of the Colleges servers and networks. Additionally, this position provides advice and guidance to the entire College community, corporate clients and other educational institutions regarding servers, network infrastructure and the complex interdependencies that exist between these systems and the applications, operating systems and workstations that they support. The responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Install, configure, and maintain operating systems in both physical and virtual environments, including but not limited to Windows, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Ubuntu, and

Maintains, troubleshoots and supports software across all operating systems;

Install, configure maintain and optimize VMWare server virtualization;

Responsible for all core infrastructure applications, including but not limited to, Active Directory, Exchange, DHCP , DNS , Print & File Servers;

Maintains College server environment by planning, upgrading, tuning and troubleshooting the applications and operating systems running on College servers;

Responsible for security of the server and network environment, with Cyber Security at the forefront;

Designs, implements, and maintains network access infrastructure devices and services, including but not limited to, VPN , Firewall, Routers, Ethernet and Fiber Channel Switches, WLAN , SAN / NAS Storage, Backup Systems, Intrusion Prevention/Detection and Endpoint Protection;

Designs, implements, and maintains all aspects of network infrastructure security though Firewalls, ACL , VLANS ;

Implements and maintains all aspects of network functionality, including but not limited to, routing, routing protocols, cabling, VLANs, Sub-netting, Switching, Active Directory, DHCP , DNS , and ACLs;

Develops policies, procedures and guidelines for managing the network infrastructure;

Provides formal instruction to the Junior Server Specialist on various network / security related topics to develop the Junior Server Specialists skill level;

Develops utility software to provide enhanced automation or control of College server or network resources, and develops scripts to help maintain or automate computing resources at the College;

Works in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Experience

Typical number of years of experience, in addition to the necessary education level, required to perform the responsibilities of the position
Minimum of seven (7) years

Type of Experience

More than eight years of practical experience in the Information Technology field including at least four years of progressive experience installing, administering, supporting, troubleshooting, tuning and testing Unix and Windows servers, as well as workstations. Five years experience working in a complex multi-vendor environment with exposure to as many of the operating systems and computer / network equipment as possible.
