Position Summary

The Shop Hand is required to assist in the mechanical repair and maintenance of all company vehicles and assets under the guidance of certified technicians. The Shop Hand will be trained to maintain the shop and tools, and repair minor mechanical problems. Work assignments will be received in the form of oral or written work orders. They will need to have strong time management skills to ensure all daily responsibilities are completed. This position will also require forklift work in a warehouse setting.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance on trucks, mounted equipment, and trailers
• Perform daily safety and maintenance checks
• Service vehicles
• Clean and maintain interior and exterior of the truck as well as the shop
• Adhere to workplace safety policies and regulations
• Communicate any unsafe conditions or accidents/injuries in a timely manner to the supervisor
• Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless service
• Load and unload trucks and trailers using a forklift
• Other assigned tasks

Minimum Requirements

• High School Diploma
• A valid Class 5 driver's license
• Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills
• Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
• Able to work well under pressure
• Strong attention to detail
• Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times
• Knowledge of inventory control and inventory systems for parts management an asset
• *Forklift certification (preferred)
• *Tire machine experience (preferred)

*Willing to train the right candidate.

Working Conditions

• Able to follow specific directions
• May spend long hours in intense concentration which requires attention to detail and high levels of accuracy
• Required to meet a number of deadlines which may cause stress
• May need to lift or move heavy objects
• Ability to use a broom and/or snow shovel on a daily basis
• Ability to be under and on top of large trucks while doing maintenance
