The position of Summer Camp Counselor requires the incumbent to have an energetic and enthusiastic approach to teaching, coaching and providing care for children ages 5-12 years old. In this role, you will assist the MHOA Programs Department in providing high-quality programming at the Mahogany Beach

Club during the 2023 season. Your main responsibility will be to supervise campers and facilitate a variety of lesson plans and themed curricula including, but not limited to, free play, crafts, games, sports, and field trip activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Above all else, create a safe, inclusive, and fun environment for our summer campers.
  • Lead and assist with activities, crafts, and games.
  • Follow the daily schedule/timeline to the best of your ability but have the wherewithal to adapt and pivot when need be.
  • Communicate effectively and work collaboratively in a team setting.
  • Create teachable/coachable “lightbulb” moments for the participants.
  • Maintain an accurate attendance of all assigned campers throughout the day and during sign- in/out.
  • Demonstrate and model appropriate behaviours for campers.
  • Communicate professionally with parents and guardians about their child’s experience at camp.
  • Attend staff orientation and weekly staff meetings.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as required.

Requirements:

  • Post-secondary education or experience in the following fields considered an asset: o Early Childhood Education o Health and Physical Education o Education

o Inclusive and Special Education o Fine Arts o STEAM (Science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics)

  • Upon hire, completion, or proof of certifications in Standard First Aid/CPR-C, High Five Training,

Between Friends Inclusion Training, and BLS (Basic Life Saving). All will be provided for successful applicants. o Additional opportunities to complete certifications through the National CoachingCertification Program and Canadian Tire Jumpstart.

  • 18+ will be required to complete a Police Information Check including a Vulnerable Sector

Check.

Working Conditions:

  • Must have the physical ability to lead and participate in physical sports/games, and other activities.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be willing to work 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday during July and August in all kinds of weather. Must provide your own clothing and come prepared, daily.
  • Interaction with children, employees, residents, and the public at large.
  • Position requires extensive physical and emotional demands.
  • Dress for the activity: you are expected to wear athletic clothing and appropriate shoes for the activity.

Contract length: 3 months
Part-time hours: 30 per week

Salary: $16.00-$18.00 per hour
