Aatse Davie School will be hiring an Outdoor Education Teacher for the 2023/2024 school year. Aatse Davie School is located with in the Kwadacha Nation which is an isolated Kaska-Tsek'ene community located 600km north of Prince George BC. It lies at the confluence of the Fox, the Kwadacha and Finlay rivers in the Rocky Mountain Trench.

We are looking for dynamic individuals to join our team and be part of our rich cultural heritage and growing community. The Outdoor Education program is part of Aatse Davie School and is well funded and community supported. This program ensures all students receive on the land learning weekly. If you love the outdoors and enjoy hiking, canoeing, snowmobiling and skiing this may be a wonderful opportunity for you. There are 14 professional staff and 8 support Staff. We have a student population of 100 from Kindergarten to grade 12.

Roles/ Responsibilities:

  • Develop trip and lesson plans for K-12 students in correlation with the BC curriculum
  • Provide cross-curricular guided inquiry experiences outdoors
  • Engage students in exploration and play in an outdoor environment
  • Collaborate with colleagues, community members and organizations, and elders in the design and delivery of the program
  • Effectively manage student behaviour in an outdoor learning environment
  • Value caring for natural surroudings and the greater ecological world, promoting advocacy and stewardship
  • Order, store, organize, and maintain gear and equipment
  • Maintain a strong risk-management mindset-monitor environmental conditions and handle emergencies and contingencies
  • Willingness and commitment to uphold Aatse Davie Schools' policies and protocols

The Successful Candidate will:

  • Hold or willing to obtain a valid BC Teaching Certificate
  • Hold or willing to obtain a valid BC driver's License
  • Have experience in outdoor adventure education or related field
  • Have knowledge of associated skills and equipment for leading outdoor education/recreation activities
  • Have strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Have experience with trip planning and menu planning
  • Have a strong work ethic both independently and collaboratively as part of team
  • Have a clear vision of the role that outdoor education plays in the personal development of students
  • Have a risk management mindset
  • Possess or be willing to obtain Wilderness First Aid certification
  • Any related outdoor certifications preferred, but not necessary: National Lifeguard, Paddle Canada, Swift Water Rescue.
