Team Leader/Instructor Job at AbleSoap - Small Ballers

AbleSoap - Small Ballers East Gwillimbury, ON

Small Ballers, a children’s recreation program conducted through the local school boards, is designed for kids 18 months to 7 years of age. We recently conducted a very small poll in 10 areas of Simcoe County to determine next steps in growing our program into these communities. The response was very positive.

In less than four days from Barrie to East Gwillimbury, across to Schomburg and up to Midland we had over 400 children's parents say yes to wanting the program in their areas.

However, this work we do not take lightly. We are impacting young children and to do that with fun, effectiveness and positivity we must grow this correctly. We do that by equipping each location with two quality people.

Each Leader instructs their own class and have two age groups per night. There are four age groups, or brackets as we call them, and they are Mini Ballers 18 months to 2 ½ years (30 minute class), Small Ballers 2 ½ - 3 ½ years years (30 minute class), Big Ballers 3 ½ - 5 years years (45 minute class) and Mega Ballers 5 – 7 years years (45minute class). Classes are not larger than 12 per class and the first bracket, Mini Ballers, a parent must attend. The second bracket it is optional for parental attendance, however, if a child is one of our Flex members (this is where a child has a specific challenge and we bring in additional staff/parents to support us in teaching the program so the child gets equity in the lesson) or its required, then a parent will be also asked in. The other two age groups are student instructor based. Parents are always on-site either on a bench in the gym, or during summer months, the fields outside. This is mandatory, however, only one parent is permitted.

Those joining us must enjoy being with kids, the intangible benefits of watching them learn and develop. Those who have experience in the outlined age groups are considered ideal. That experience could be with children of your own or as a career. We consider both experience. The ideal people we seek will have some sort of prior coaching or teaching of children, however, our Leadership program can be taught as well to the right candidates.

We invite couples to feel free to apply together. Instructing is four hours a week max (at the moment, meaning, if your community demand grows beyond your class limits we may take on additional nights), right now Mondays and Tuesday, however that can change dependent upon the school board in your area or where the program is held. For those coming on board it acts as a nice extra income opportunity with manageable timelines.

All candidates must pass security screening and be prepared to be trained. Training Periods are also probationary and will be paid. Positions are probationary based on observation during the training and cohesiveness between the kids and instructors. Tottenham or Bradford on Monday and Tuesday evenings starting at 5:45-7:15PM will be the locations used for the upcoming training. The next program will start in April and we would like to be well on our way to having, possibly you, ready to go!
