Yellowknife TRANSIT BUS DRIVER

Part Time Leading to Full Time and Casual opportunities available

Drive Your Career with First Transit, our Nations’ largest provider of bus passenger transportation. Currently recruiting for part time leading to full time- and casual Transit Drivers for our Yellowknife NT location.

Previous transit experience is not required. We offer an excellent paid training program, and competitive wages.

YOU WILL:
Enjoy interacting with the public;

Maintain a clean and professional appearance and demeanor;

Drive one of several different coach/buses or company non-revenue vehicles in a safe, courteous, and reliable manner throughout the contracted service area within a daily assigned time schedule;

Maintain the appearance of the interior of the bus ;

Perform pre/post trip vehicle inspections as required;

Assist in the boarding of passengers using wheelchairs or other mobility aids;

Complete and submit written reports concerning passengers and all accidents, and communicate with dispatch as required;

Operate on-board computer fare boxes and destination signs;

Perform all other duties assigned.

Previous Transit experience and commercial driver’s license not required, we will provide training to successful candidates

YOU HAVE:
3 Years driving experience (commercial or private);

Demonstrated ability to communicate/interact with the public (all levels of comprehension), management and other staff members in a courteous/respectful/efficient manner and to answer a variety of enquiries with tact and discretion;

Demonstrate strong interpersonal and problem solving skills;

A record of safe and responsible driving over the past 3 years;

A willingness to work a variety of shifts;

The ability to demonstrate proficiency in the safe and effective operation of a transit vehicle;

Applied knowledge of Workplace Safety and Health Act in relations to Transit Operators;

Knowledge of occupational hazards/safety precautions associated with a variety of transit work activities;

To be able to pass vulnerable sector records check;

To be able to pass drug and alcohol testing

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Transit environment: weekend and early, split & late shifts may be required
