WEB DEVELOPER


Non-Union, 70 hours Bi-weekly

One year, renewable


The Rotman Research Institute (RRI) is a premier interdisciplinary, international centre for the study of human brain function. Our core research themes are: Cognitive Neuroscience, Aging and Brain Health, Alzheimer’s and Related Diseases, Computational Modeling and Neuroinformatics. Our research focuses on cognitive brain functions (including memory, executive function, attention, perception, and language), both in normal aging and in the presence of diseases and conditions that affect the brain, such as Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, stroke, and traumatic brain injury. The Rotman Research Institute supports behavioral, neuropsychological, neuroimaging, and neurocomputational studies with state-of-the-art facilities, including eye-tracking, electroencephalography, and magnetoencephalography laboratories and a research-dedicated Siemens 3 Tesla MRI in-house at Baycrest.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Creating, designing, development and maintaining software for a medical health screening application with a focus on client-side application development
  • Working with a team of researchers and healthcare workers aiming to move “pen and paper” clinical screening tests to a user-friendly tablet or web browser-based device.
  • Work with other technical, clinical, and research staff to develop solution
  • Attend weekly team meetings to report on progress
  • Consult with project manager and stakeholders to develop and document requirements
  • Research and evaluate software options
  • Create mock-ups and modify iteratively as needed

Qualifications include but are not limited to:

  • Post-Secondary Degree in Computer Science or equivalent in combination of skills and experience in a related field
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working as a client-side web-application developer
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Experience with Git or a similar version control system
  • Experience with web development (JavaScript, jQuery, CSS, AJAX)
  • Experience in cross-platform web/mobile application development (graphical user interfaces, Javascript, HTML/CSS)
  • Familiarity with databases and client-server communication
  • Familiarity with automated testing and testing frameworks
  • Willingness to learn in general, and to learn new technologies in particular
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
