About Us



The Ministerial Correspondence Unit (MCU) is responsible for coordinating all correspondence to and from the department, as well as briefing notes going to the Premier, Minister, Deputy Minister, and MLAs.

The Ministerial Correspondence Unit (MCU) is a shared service for the Ministry of Affordability and Utilities and as such the Writer will also be providing writing support to both ministries.

The department’s Writer works in the MCU in the Deputy Minister’s Office and works closely with the ARTs Administrator, other Writers, the Team Lead, and Operations Manager to provide the Premier, the Ministers and the Deputy Ministers with quality information and responses to correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.

Role

In this dynamic position, you will work closely with the Team Lead and other Writer to ensure correspondence produced for the Minister/Deputy Minister or Premier is of the highest quality. Working with colleagues in the Ministerial Correspondence Unit this position is accountable for the accurate and efficient processing of correspondence and ensuring that the style, formatting and tone conforms to set standards.

We’re seeking a Writer/Editor with excellent writing skills, knowledge of the ARTS system and advanced organizational and problem solving skills to step into this role.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provides correspondence support and works with the MCU team to develop and refine processes.
  • Stays informed of and shares information about changes to preferred style, key messaging and updates to standard responses.
  • Demonstrates team work to ensure goals are met and ensures positive relationships both inside and outside the team are made and maintained.
  • Composes accurate, and appropriate, grammatically correct responses.
  • Has a good working knowledge of the departments and their key files as well as the divisions responsible.
  • Works independently within the scope of responsibilities and seeks guidance when needed.
  • Provides issues tracking support for the correspondence in the MCU.
  • Provides cover off the Team Lead if needed.

Qualifications

A University degree in a related field such as Public Administration, Business, Arts, Economics, Political Science, Environmental Science, Law, and International Relations plus a minimum of (2) two years progressively responsible policy related experience is required; equivalencies will be considered.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must have political acumen.
  • Experience in gathering data & compiling information.
  • Experience in preparing documents for government elected officials.


Assets:

  • Working experience in the Ministerial Correspondence Unit (MCU).
  • Background in journalism/communications/issues management

Salary

$2,588.06 to $3,397.76 bi-weekly ($67,548 - $88,681/year)

Position Information:

  • Office located in Edmonton.
  • Hours of Work: 36.25 hours per week (permanent full time).
  • Monday to Friday (08:15 am-16:30 pm).
    • Flexible start/end times may be considered.
