Schedule Monday to Friday, 7 hours per day, 35 hours per week (working the school
schedule)
Location: Mine Centre School
Rate of Pay: $30.87 - $36.32 per hour plus vacation pay

POSITION PURPOSE
The Youth Outreach Worker is a key member of the School Support Services team and the
School(s) at which they are assigned. They are responsible for re-engaging students and
supporting their successful re-entry to school. The incumbent plans and coordinates outreach
to families and at-risk youth, shares supportive programming information and assists in re-
connections with the school system. This may include but is not limited to eliciting, receiving, and
sharing information about interests, concerns and needs of the youth, providing information
regarding relevant programs, services and opportunities, and enabling and supporting positive
participation in the school community. The Youth Outreach Worker conducts planning activities
in-person as well as online to foster a positive school-family-student relationship. Responsible for
incorporating land-based learning into the classroom and providing related professional learning
for staff. Additionally, the Youth Outreach Worker provides school staff professional learning and
development to support re-engagement of students and their families.
TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- 2-yr College diploma in a relevant area of study (e.g. Social Services Worker)
- 1-3 years related practical experience
- Familiarity and knowledge of the Education system and experience working in a school
- Sound understanding of challenges that face students and a strong working knowledge
- Knowledge and understanding of First Nations culture, heritage, values and history
- Strong critical/cognitive thinking and problem-solving skills

- Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to convey complex
administration, and outside agencies in a clear, concise and easy to understand manner
- Excellent planning and organizational skills with demonstrated ability to prioritize

RESPONSIBILITIES
DIRECT STUDENT SUPPORT
- Based upon individual needs, works with students to create a positive working
- Supports students in finding strategies for dealing with challenges such as anxiety at
