Nanak’s new Accounting Assistant will assist with the preparation and maintenance of accounting and financial records. The position will involve general accounting, cost accounting, and budgetary controls. Our Accounting Assistant will report directly to the Accounts Manager.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform full cycle accounting (including but not limited to preparing checks, coding and posting invoices, preparing deposits, journal entries, reconciliations, petty cash)
  • Preparation and issuing of checks / payment of invoices
  • Maintain and manage accounts receivable
  • Maintain an accurate and complete trail of supporting documentation for all financial and bookkeeping activities
  • Maintain year-end working papers and spreadsheets, and assist with preparation for any audits or independent reviews with support from the Controller
  • Maintain up-to-date, complete and systematic filing system to support book-keeping and financial records
  • Liaise with all departments and support them in book-keeping needs related to their department
  • Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts, institute and maintain other planning and control procedures (including the cost accounting system), and analyze and report variances
  • Furnish internal reports, revise and update reports to be more useful and efficient, and furnish external reports as necessary
  • Perform other related duties as required

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 1-2 years of accounting experience in a similar role
  • A diploma or degree in accounting or administration, or equivalent
  • General knowledge of accounting processes and procedures
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and QuickBooks
  • Impeccable accuracy with numbers and high level of attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong communications skills (written and verbal)
  • Professional demeanor and presentation
  • Ability to work proactively both independently and in a team environment
  • A solid work ethic with ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to handle confidential information in a discreet, professional manner
