The division centralizes and supports industry clients to develop customized non-credit corporate training for their employees and take their innovative product and process ideas to market locally, nationally and internationally. Within CDARI sits a number of support functions including Business Operations, Continuing Education, International, Corporate Training, Applied Research, and Business Intelligence.

CDARI is hiring instructors to work onsite at the Calgary Corrections Centre.

The goal of SAIT’s training programs at the Calgary Corrections Centre is to focus on the skill development of inmates in a variety of trades from carpentry, electrical and industrial sewing in addition to technical skills in areas of industrial cleaning and baking as well as Academic Foundations training while incarcerated. Working closely with staff and management at the Calgary Corrections Centre, SAIT aims to continue delivering high-quality training programs that will aid the students in finding meaningful employment upon their release

This opportunity is to teach multiple Face to face deliveries at the CCC. Between now and June 29, 2023. We are coordinating at least 2-3 full delivers of each course before end of June.

Literacy Fundamentals COMM 006 (90 hours per cohort)

Course Learning Outcome(s):

  • Evaluating the Effectiveness of your text
  • Delivery Effective Presentations

Mathematics Fundamentals MATH 007 (90 hours per cohort)

Course Learning Outcome(s):
  • Perform the basic mathematical operations with whole numbers without a calculator
  • Solve real number problems involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, order of operations without a calculator
  • Solve simple equations and applied problems using the basic operations of fractions without a calculator
  • Solve sums, differences, products, and quotients using decimal and fractional notation without a calculator
  • Solve problems involving the relationships between shape and space without a calculator
  • Collect, display and analyze data to solve problems

The 90-hour courses are to be delivered in 3-hour instructional blocks 3-5 times per week but the CCC. We may run multiple cohorts per day for example;

- Cohort 1 - COMM 006 = 3 hours in the morning for 3-5 times per week
- Cohort 2 - COMM 006 = 3 hours in the afternoon for 3-5 times per week

Depending on instructor availability we could schedule mornings, afternoons and evenings working up to 7 hours per day.

A criminal record check is required to be submitted to CCC.


Role

    • Prepare and present lessons, lectures, assignments, quizzes, exams, lab activities and lab demonstrations for learners if applicable given the course outline
    • Maintain records for the purposes of grading, assessing professionalism and tracking attendance in both theory and lab classes if given the course outline
    • Manage the classroom or lab to ensure a positive learning environment
    • Show personal interest in the learner and create a climate conducive to optimal learning
    • Provide on-going support, guidance and advice to students
    • Attend all SAIT training as required
    • Achievement of School initiatives and Objectives
    • Be an active and engaged member of the School
    • Adhere to all safety legislation, guidelines and safety standards as required
    • Maintain contact with relevant industry sectors
    • All other duties as required for the position

Qualifications

    • Required:
    • 2-5 years previous Instructional experience
    • Experience and fluency with Office 365 (MS Word, Outlook and PowerPoint)
    • Experience with videoconferencing technology (MS Teams, WebX, Skype or Zoom)
    • Fluent in English reading and vocabulary
    • Comfortable speaking to the public
    • Positive & respectful attitude
    • Ability to read, interpret and deliver specific curriculum
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Ability to organize and present written information

    • Desired:
    • Experience with a Learning Management System (Brightspace or Moodle is an asset)
    • Training and knowledge of adult learning fundamentals
    • Formal training or education in facilitation or teaching
    • Formal training in online technologies
    • Experience with curriculum development or instructional design
