Our Library System
The Thompson-Nicola Regional Library (TNRL), the biggest department of the Regional District provides services through 12 locations, a Mobile Library and Library Home Service. Located in the Central Interior of British Columbia, the TNRL is committed to providing excellent service to patrons for lifetime personal growth, learning and enjoyment. The Library team provides programming, materials and resources to people of all ages and abilities. The Administrative & Support Services Assistant will work in an organization that values flexibility and exemplary service. The Role
Reporting to the Chief Librarian, the Administrative & Support Services Assistant, provides administrative support to the library’s leadership team. Administrative duties include booking and scheduling assistance, preparing and processing correspondence, and distributing mail, coordinating meetings and events, recording and distributing minutes, records management (electronic & paper), locating vendors, sourcing prices, placing approved orders, following up on problem orders and coordinating delivery of supply and capital items to libraries. This position also provides support on special projects by researching, compiling and summarizing information. Gathers and prepares statistics and information for reports etc. The Administrative & Support Services Assistant also provides back-up for Support Services which may include receiving and processing of materials, and Interlibrary Loans. Some travel may be required for special events.

The Schedule - Monday to Friday - 8:30am to 4:00pm


JOB REQUIREMENTS
The Ideal Candidate will have:

  • A passion for helping others and a belief in the importance of literacy
  • Minimum two-year Diploma from an accredited post-secondary institution
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational & time management skills
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and planning skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with people from all levels of the organization
  • Sound judgment and problem solving skills
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Flexibility in responding to changing work demands
  • Ability to quickly learn new skills
  • Ability to handle information discretely
  • Demonstrated computer skills (must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Experience in meeting/ calendar management
  • Ability to innovate and streamline processes in ever-changing environments
  • Ability to type 50 wpm with accuracy in spelling, punctuation & grammar
  • Positive attitude with the ability to promote a positive environment
  • Experience sourcing, pricing and placing supply orders, and managing relationships with vendors.
  • A valid driver’s license

Preferred candidate will have:
  • Business Administration certificate, Administration Assistant training or equivalent
  • Administrative experience in an office environment


This position falls under the provisions of the Collective Agreement with the BC Government and Service Employees' Union, Local 705. The placement of the Administrative & Support Services Assistant is at Pay Grade 9, which is $27.60 to $30.52 per hour and a competitive comprehensive benefits package being offered.
