Job Summary

Apply your expertise in a role where you can make a positive difference for the children of B.C.

The Early Childhood Educator Registry (Registry) is the legislated authority responsible for the certification of Early Childhood Educators (ECE) and ECE Assistants, the investigation of complaints regarding the competence and conduct of ECEs and ECE Assistants and the assessment and recommended approval of post-secondary early childhood education programs in British Columbia (BC).

The role of the Registry’s Investigations Team is unique in that their primary purpose is to investigate an individual’s suitability to practice as an ECE or ECE Assistant in BC. These investigations are fundamental to the Director’s statutory duty, under the Community Care and Assisted Living Act, to maintain the integrity of the sector and to protect the health, safety and wellbeing of children who are in the care of ECEs and ECE Assistants. To qualify for certification, an individual must demonstrate that they are of good character, have the personality, ability and temperament necessary to work with children, and have the skills and knowledge that meet the BC Child Care Sector Occupational Competencies.

Job Requirements:

  • Post-secondary diploma in Early Childhood Education and experience as described below. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

    • Minimum of one (1) years’ experience working in a licensed child care facility.
    • Experience in a regulatory client service environment (compliance and enforcement) applying and interpreting, legislation, policies, and practices.
    • Experience working with multiple stakeholders.
    • Experience summarizing and analysing large volumes of information to make clear and concise recommendations and write technical reports.

Preference may be given to applicants with:

  • One (1) year experience working in a compliance and enforcement position.
  • Diploma or BA in Early Childhood Education.
  • Child and Youth Care Diploma or Degree.
  • Completion of formal training (on the job and/or post-secondary) in investigation techniques and administrative law.
  • Two (2) or more years’ experience working in a licensed child care facility.
  • Hold or be eligible for British Columbia Early Childhood Educator certification.
