Bring your excellent interpersonal and communication skills to our team as an Advisor in the College’s Communications department.

The Communications department is responsible for the College’s reputation and brand management and developing strategic communication initiatives that align with the organization’s mandate, values and goals. This involves engaging with patients, the public, Ontario dentists, industry stakeholders and College staff. The department creates content for and manages the RCDSO’s various digital platforms, including the College website, intranet and social media accounts.

You will be responsible for providing information and impartial advice to patients, dentists, and dental clinic staff about dental practices and the regulatory environment in Ontario. You will also research and develop resources for the dental profession and assist with producing content for the College’s website.

You are a dynamic self-starter who can work well in a demanding and fast-paced team environment. You will have in-depth knowledge and understanding of Ontario health regulations as well as highly developed interpersonal skills, including verbal and written communication.

This is anticipated to be a 12-month contract. This job will require the successful candidate to work remotely until further notice.

What can I expect to do in this role?

Reporting to the Director, Communications, you will:
  • Research and respond to telephone and written inquiries from dentists, dental office staff and patients, and provide verbal and/or written practice information and advice, including action items, communication strategies and resources within RCDSO service standard guidelines
  • Manage and deliver high-quality, solutions-focused service
  • Maintain accurate information within the College’s document management systems
  • Forward or escalate matters to the Director or other areas of the College as required
  • Keep up to date on legislative changes and emerging trends within the healthcare landscape
  • Manage and deliver assigned projects and goals within the required deadlines
  • Provide advice on policy development and interpretation of the College’s positions to the Director, Communications, Registrar, senior staff and colleagues
  • Assist in research, collaborate and write practice-related articles and content for the College’s website, and review articles written by other internal contributors
  • Identify, interview and collaborate with internal contributors and reviewers
  • Other duties as assigned
What skills and background do I need?

The Advisor requires:
  • Completion of a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, preferably in a health-related field
  • Minimum of five years’ experience and strong client service skills with the ability to interpret and relay complex information accurately and succinctly
  • Demonstrated experience de-escalating a variety of challenging situations
  • Demonstrated high degree of professionalism, initiative, analytical thinking and solutions-focused
  • Acts as a champion/agent of change for learning new technologies, new software, and new approaches
  • Ability to independently manage a high-volume workload with competing deadlines
  • Ability to maintain and observe confidentiality
  • Strong ability to collaborate with other departments throughout the College as required
  • Excellent oral, written and presentation communication skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Demonstrated natural curiosity to ask questions, review research, look at the data and/or find evidence
  • Ability to adapt explanations of complex problems to a wide range of audiences without using technical jargon
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team environment on projects and other tasks
  • Knowledge of the Regulated Health Professions Act and Dentistry Act is preferred
  • Proficiency with MS Office; experience with case management systems and SharePoint is an asset
  • Oral health care experience is an asset
  • French proficiency is an asset
Compensation and Benefits
  • Base annual salary between $111,632 to $125,586 (salary is pro-rated for the duration of the contract), commensurate with experience
