  • Duration: September 2023 until December 2023 or April 2024 (4 months with opportunity to be extended for an additional 4-month term upon mutual agreement)
  • Location: Victoria (our office is situated on the Selkirk Waterfront on the Gorge Inlet. Enjoy stunning views of downtown Victoria and the Olympic mountains and take advantage of the nearby Galloping Goose Regional Trail for walking and biking).
  • Salary: $1,819.12 bi-weekly (for students working towards a diploma or bachelor's degree) or $2,136.88 (for students working towards a post-graduate degree)
  • Grant: As part of our inVESTED scholarship program, you may be eligible for reimbursement up to a maximum of $1,000 per four-month work term to cover the cost of co-op work term tuition fees.

  • Team: The Business Measurement and Analytics (BMA) team is responsible for planning, designing, creating, testing and supporting the Corporation's analytics capabilities. These capabilities include high-visibility reporting and dashboards, critical member research and building self-serve analytics capabilities throughout the organization. These capabilities have driven change throughout BC Pension Corporation and supported our journey towards becoming a data-driven organization.

The Job Responsibilities

This position focuses on providing support for data, stakeholders support, and timeline coordination related to these high-visibility dashboards. This position will work with leadership and key stakeholders throughout the organization to extract and maintain key data to support dashboards and reports and work with stakeholders to ensure the dashboards have no gaps in data. This position is under the leadership and guidance of the Manager of Analytics and will work within a team of data and research analysts. Assignments will include coordinating key data, managing deadlines and ensuring commitments are met, meeting with stakeholders to identify data gaps and helping with development of key deliverables.

  • Experience in developing reports in Power BI Analysis and processes to analyze unstructured information collected through a variety of platforms
  • Experience in assessing value and accuracy of information, defining relationships, differences and anomalies in information sources
  • Experience in problem definition and analysis
  • Learn how to build and maintain working relationships and increase your communication skills
  • Experience in planning, organization, and prioritization skills
  • Exposure to collaboration and project tool sets like MS Teams, Share point, Confluence & Jira
  • Exposure to SQL/Oracle Databases

Requirements

This opportunity is available to 2nd - 4th year and graduate level students with an interest in analytics.

As a prospective team member of BC Pension Corporation, the successful co-op student will be:

Knowledge and/or experience in the following areas would be an asset:

  • Microsoft Excel
  • Any BI tool (Power BI preferred)
  • Client management / engagement experience
  • Experience with SQL, structured data or data warehouses
  • Experience in delivering services in a client capacity
  • Experience working with stakeholders and communicating findings and information to assist with decision making
  • Experience supporting end users
  • Troubleshooting and resolving data issues
  • Experience in training analytics end-users preferred.

Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in the following tool sets currently in use within the corporation:

  • Microsoft Power BI (DAX and Power Query)
  • Microsoft SQL Server
  • Exposure / interest in Data Warehousing
