Apprentice Archaeologist

ARCHER CRM is hiring Apprentice Archaeologists to participate in archaeological fieldwork
throughout BC, based out of our Prince George, Fort St John, and Delta office locations.
Apprentice Archaeologists are Archaeologists with less than 1 year of field experience
(including field school), or those close to graduating with their B.A. in
Anthropology/Archaeology.

Job description
Primary Responsibility: to assist the Archaeological Field Directors and Lead Supervisors in conducting
archaeological field work, including but not limited to:

  • Active participation in archaeological field assessments;
  • Adhering to ARCHER’s OH&S and Quality Assurance programs;
  • Acquiring field experience and knowledge from senior staff with the intention of
taking on further responsibilities within the organization;
  • Upon demonstrated ability, assist Field Director(s) and Supervising Archaeologist(s)
with any/all fieldwork tasks and responsibilities;
  • May involve frequent travel to other ARCHER offices & jobsites.
Preference given to those with the following skills/experience:
  • Demonstrated ability to take effective field notes;
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate;
  • Field experience (field school, co-op term, field assistant);
  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance and in a team environment;
  • Basic understanding of lithic technology, GPS terminology & mapping techniques;
  • Safe operation of vehicles, ATV, snowmobiles, and other devices is an asset, but not a

requirement.
Requirements:

  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License is preferred, a Class 7 will be considered;
  • Canadian Citizen, or legally eligible to work in Canada;
  • Consistent availability to work away from home office at remote jobsites and
offices;
  • Flexibility to travel to other offices for extended shifts;
  • Undergraduate degree in Archaeology and/or Anthropology, or currently enrolled and

applying as a part-time worker during the school term (full-time, seasonal for summer).
Preferred Certifications:

  • First Aid Level 1
Remuneration:

- $24.00/hour - $26.00/hour commensurate with demonstrated experience
