Job Description


AECOM
is seeking numerous Archaeology Technician I to be based out of multiple Ontario offices. This is an outdoor physical labour job, conducting strenuous archaeological fieldwork across the province in all weather conditions. Please be advised that LIUNA has been certified by the Labour Relations Board to bargain on behalf of persons in the above noted position. The parties have entered into a collective bargaining agreement and any candidate who is hired into the noted role will be kept informed of any changes to the terms & conditions of their employment because of that process.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Performs a variety of tasks in support of project staff.
  • May gather and maintain specified records of scientific data for supervisor, including but not limited to environmental sampling, operations and maintenance and inspections at client sites.
  • Other activities may include assisting with calculations, setting up and operating equipment, inspecting equipment and installations for compliance with specifications and maintaining proper project documentation.
  • Collects and enters data and applies technical principles and theories under supervision.


Qualifications


Minimum Requirements:

  • Highschool

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1+ year of relevant experience as an archaeological field technician.
  • Must be able to perform strenuous archaeological fieldwork which includes prolonged standing, repetitive motions such as bending, lifting (up to 40lbs), squatting, twisting, and shoveling using shovels.
  • Ability to work outside in a variety of conditions including cold or hot temperatures and light rain as well as traverse rough terrain.
  • Ability to efficiently do quality fieldwork, attention to detail when digging, collecting material, and following instruction.
  • Must be willing to work out of town, across Ontario, for extended periods of time (overnight stays).
  • Demonstrate respectful and understanding behaviour towards to our Indigenous partners.
  • Reliable transportation to & from assigned office or designated project meet spot.
  • Expected to prioritize Health & Safety & follow all AECOM procedures and requirements of the project safety plan. Must wear always required personal protective equipment which can include but not limited to hard hat, safety glasses, safety boots, safety vest and work gloves.
  • Excavate & operate in a consistent and controlled manner based on direction given from the Field Supervisor.
  • Responsible for carrying out Stages 2-4 archaeological field work under the direction of experienced archaeologists.
  • Proven ability to recognize cultural material & collect in a controlled manner.
  • Proven physical ability & care when conducting excavations.
  • Expect to perform physical labour in all weather conditions and workdays ranging from 8-12 hours.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Willingness to continually learn & take direction.
  • Communicate information, issues, concerns related to the site work in an effective & professional manner to Field Supervisor.
  • Attend work prepared for all weather conditions, ensuring appropriate weather gear is readily available.
  • Keep artifacts collected as directed by site supervisor.
  • Leading by example, taking ownership for responsibilities
  • Sensitivity & awareness combined with a respectful attitude towards Indigenous culture & people is a must.
  • Collaboration in a team environment is key.
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license is preferred.
