The University of Lethbridge, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Art, invites applications for a three-year term appointment of an Art History/Museum Studies instructor at the University of Lethbridge at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective July 1, 2023. The candidate will teach 5 courses in the academic year.

About the Faculty of Fine Arts and the Department
The Department of Art offers undergraduate and graduate programs in Art with BFA degrees in Art History/Museum Studies, Indigenous Art History/ Museum Studies, Art Studio, Indigenous Studio, and an MFA in Studio Art, as well as various combined degrees. Our programs integrate diverse areas of study within a liberal education context. The Art History/Museum Studies program concentrates primarily on modern and contemporary Global, Canadian, and Indigenous art. Through a combination of history, theory, and practical museum experience, students intern in regional public art galleries and museums to gain valuable, career-specific skills. The Faculty of Fine Arts, housed in the Centre for the Arts with state-of-the-art equipment and facilities, offers degrees in Art, Drama, Music and New Media. Lethbridge is home to a dynamic art community with nationally recognized artists and galleries. The University possesses a significant art collection that fosters direct student access to historical and contemporary artwork, while a lively Visiting Speakers Program offers extensive exposure to leading practitioners in the field. The Position
Applicants will have a PhD in Art History or be nearing completion and provide evidence of successful teaching experience. The ideal candidate is Indigenous, Black or a person of colour with research and/or teaching expertise in the areas of decolonizing museums, and/or Indigenous studies. It should be noted that the position is open to all applicants. The successful candidate will teach Canadian Art pre-1960; Canadian Art post-1960; Critical Issues in Indigenous Contemporary Art; and at least one of the following: Theory and Methods of Art and Art History; Introduction to Museum Studies. In addition, the candidate will ideally teach one course from their research area which might include Indigenous, Black diasporic or immigrant art practices in Canada; antiracist and anticolonial museum practices; or environmental or land-based practices. Our classes appeal to a diverse audience of general students, Art Studio majors, and Art History/Museum Studies majors.
