It provides a full range of communications services to ministry clients and elected officials. Role

Reporting to the Director of Planning & Events, the Assistant Director provides leadership and direction to a team of communications and audio/visual professionals delivering communications services to clients across government.


The Assistant Director develops, monitors and maintains systems, processes and policies to ensure that planning and event services are delivered efficiently and effectively, and meet the objectives and requirements of the Office of the Premier and communication branches. This position also plays a key role in identifying potential issues, flagging issues identified with ministry communications staff, vendors; and coordinates responses for CPE senior management.


Specific accountabilities include:
  • Promoting the effective and efficient delivery of communications programs, products, and services to meet the information needs of Albertans.
  • Coordinating the timely and appropriate preparation of communications and event materials (i.e. event plans, itineraries, etc.).
  • Leading a team of communications and audio/visual professionals.
  • Assisting with the implementation of operational policies and systems.
  • Contract and fiscal management.
  • Assisting with strategic communications planning and processes.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Public Affairs/Relations, Journalism, English, or any related field, plus four years of related management experience, including:
  • Experience with team-building, supervising, issues management, project management, strategic communications, and media relations.
  • Strong knowledge of verbal and written communications skills, various communications tools and products, event planning and logistics, audio-visual requirements for media availabilities, accounting and financial reporting.
  • Understanding of Government of Alberta visual identity guidelines, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy legislation, Collective Agreement, CPE standards, policies and procedures, the Alberta political system, government decision-making processes.

Equivalencies:
  • Related education or experience considered on the basis of 1 year of education for 1 year of experience, or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education


Assets:
  • Experience with Government of Alberta systems including 1GX and BERNIE, and office software MicroSoft 365, Adobe Acrobat.

Salary

$3,100.80 to $4,172.77 bi-weekly ($80,930 to $108,909/yearly)

Notes

Standard office hours are 8:15 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday; there may be times when work outside these times/days is required. Some travel may be required.


Final candidate will be required to undergo a security screening.
